“Good Days” is a favorite track of many SZA fans. However, there’s a second artist included in the harmonies of this original release. That’s Jacob Collier, a music prodigy with a passion for Crocs and funky patterns.

Here’s what we know about how “Good Days” came to fruition thanks to Instagram and a text conversation.

Jacob Collier worked with SZA, Coldplay, Daniel Caesar, Tori Kelly, and other artists

Some critics call him the next Mozart. With jazz legend Quincy Jones as a mentor, Collier is a Grammy award-winning songwriter, producer, and musician known thorough the music community for his unique harmonies.

Collier also collaborated with some of music’s best-known artists, including Coldplay, for their 2021 release Music of the Spheres. For Collier’s Djesse Vol. 3, vocalists featured include Daniel Caesar, Tori Kelly, and T-Pain.

Some fans also know Collier for his Instagram presence, where he often sparks music-related “challenges” and offers insight into his creative process. The artist even caught the attention of “Broken Clocks” artist SZA, who actually reached out to Collier regarding her 2020 release “Good Days.”

SZA featured Jacob Collier on her song ‘Good Days’

When the “Drew Barrymore” singer needed to add “juice” to her soon-to-be-released single, she reached out to the Grammy Award-winning musician Collier, who she found on Instagram. SZA even shared a snippet of the song on her Instagram story.

“I knew he could elevate it because he did that with everything,” SZA said during an interview with Billboard. “I asked him to section it, and he sent it back literally in no time. He was like, ‘I don’t know if this is what you were thinking of,’ and I was like, ‘Ahhh! Don’t do anything, it’s perfect!’”

The feeling was mutual. In September 2020, Jacob Collier posted a video of SZA to Instagram, captioning it ”HUGELY honored to have collaborated with the mighty SZA on her latest. I’ve been such a fan of hers since CTRL dropped three years ago. Her new music is immensely special!”

Although these two share a musical relationship, it’s unclear if they’ve ever actually met in real life. That’s particularly true to safety concerns amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic — Collier is based in England, while SZA often performs across the United States

There’s no word regarding when, or if, Collier and SZA will collaborate on another song. With “Good Days” initially released in 2020, SZA premiered several original songs in 2021. That includes the recently debuted single “I Hate U,” which earned over 30 million plays on Spotify.
