T.I. Provides an Update on ‘ATL’ Sequel
Fans of the popular movie ATL are patiently waiting for the sequel. The Will Smith produced film is a cult classic that remains on rotation on most movie channels. Its lead star T.I. recently updated fans on the sequel’s status, explaining that whenever his co-star Lauren London is ready to begin filming, the process will start. London has not taken on any acting roles since the death of her longtime boyfriend Nipsey Hussle.
‘ATL’ is a cult classic
ATL is a 2006 comedy-drama and coming of age tale. The film is loosely based on the lives of TLC lead singer, T-Boz, and the group’s producer, Dallas Austin, as friends growing up in Atlanta.
The story depicts Rashad (T.I.) and his friends in their final year of high school. London stars as T.I.’s love interest who is from the opposite side of the track.
The film features a star-studded cast. In addition to T.I. and London, OutKast’s Big Boi, Evan Ross, Jason Weaver, and Jackie Long are also in the film.
Critics favored ATL. For its opening weekend, the film came in third place. The film could have potentially done larger numbers had the movie opened nationwide as opposed to just in 1600 theaters throughout the U.S. Weaver
With a budget of just $7 million, ATL tripled, bringing in over $21 million throughout the course of its run. ATL also won an award at the BET Hip Hop Awards the same year.
ATL became an instant cult classic among fans, launching London’s career as an actress. T.I. has confirmed that a sequel is in the works.

It’s unclear when the film’s sequel was scheduled to begin filming but it’s been assumed that a script is ready and most of the cast from the original will reprise their roles. Still, T.I. recently revealed during a radio interview with Power 105.1 that whenever the sequel moves into production will depend on the availability of London.
London continues to mourn the death of her longtime partner, Nipsey Hussle, who was murdered in March 2019. Hussle left behind two children, one of whom he shares with London.
T.I. is understanding of London’s grief, telling the radio station, “She’s been going through a lot and she’s been [an] exemplary example of dealing with stress and evolution as a Black woman,” he said. “Whenever she is ready to do it I’ll see to it that it gets done.”
He notes that the sequel will happen in due time and requests fans’ patience.
London is also the star of the BET sports drama Games People Play. She is taking a step back during season 2 of the show, accepting a more minimal role. Her focus within the past year has been being with her family and maintaining Hussle’s legacy.
She’s attended several award shows on Hussle’s behalf to accept tributes in his honor. She’s also extremely involved in business dealings within Hussle’s estate.
