T.I. Says People ‘Jumped to Conclusions’ About His Remarks Regarding His Daughter, Deyjah Harris
Even though rapper T.I. Harris’ controversial comments about his daughter Deyjah Harris were made last year, they are still continuing to come back and bite him. He recently addressed them once again in a new interview.
The “hymen” comments controversy
In 2019, T.I. received a lot of backlash after he revealed that he goes with 18-year-old Deyjah to her OB-GYN appointments to make sure her “hymen is intact.” He spoke about it on the podcast, Ladies Like Us.
“Not only have we had the conversation. We have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen,” he said. “Yes, I go with her. Right after the birthday, we celebrate and then usually, like, the day after the party, she’s enjoying her gifts, I put a sticky note on the door…‘Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30.'”
His comments dominated headlines on blogs and social media for weeks. T.I. and his wife, Tiny Harris, even went on Red Table Talk to discuss what he said and what was going on.
Deyjah Harris openly talked about her reaction to her father’s comments
T.I.’s comments were a big storyline on the most recent season of T.I. and Tiny: The Friends and Family Hustle. The show took viewers into the aftermath of T.I.’s comments and how they impacted the Harris family.
On the show, Deyjah revealed that she was traumatized by her father’s comments. “I’m scrolling on Twitter and I see I’ve been tagged in a post. The only word I saw was ‘gynecologist.’ I didn’t even need to read the whole title ’cause I just knew. My heart sank…[I’m] very shocked, hurt, angry, embarrassed,” she explained.
She also noted that he has a different standard with his daughters than he does wits sons. “My dad even jokes with King about becoming a baby daddy. He would never joke like that with me. This situation is just a little traumatizing for me,” she said.
T.I. says that people got the wrong idea
In an interview with The Breakfast Club, T.I. was asked about the current state of his relationship with Deyjah.
“All the other people who jumped to conclusions and got into some weird freaky s**t, man, f**k y’all, ’cause that ain’t never been Tip,” he said. “Tip ain’t never rocked like that. Those people who assumed, ‘Oh, he’s in the exam room with her.’ I never said that. Those people who assumed, ‘Her mother had no involvement and no knowledge that this was going on.’ I never said that. Those people who assumed, ‘He made her do it against her will.’ I never said that.”
The rapper said that while he apologized to his daughter, there was still a caveat. “I was apologetic to her, but at the same time, it was still f**k you to them,” he said.
