Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza Fans Thank Dolly Parton for Her Advocacy
Taco Bell’s beloved Mexican Pizza is returning May 2022. While rapper Doja Cat was one of the first to break the news at Coachella this year, many fans think country superstar Dolly Parton also had a hand in the fast food item’s return.
Dolly Parton has been vocal about her love and longing for Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza
In a Jan. 2022 interview with Insider, the “Jolene” singer shared her go-to Taco Bell order: “I like soft-shell tacos. I like the others, but they fall apart so bad, especially if you’re riding around. So I always get a Taco Supreme, with the sour cream and all that, in the soft shell. I love that.”
She also orders a side of rice and beans and drizzles mild sauce over everything — “I don’t like to get it too hot and ruin everything.”
But if the Queen of Country really had her way, she’d order Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza, which, at the time, was no longer on the menu. When asked if she thought T-Bell should bring back the menu item that features ground beef and refried beans between tortilla shells topped with pizza sauce, cheese, and tomatoes, she exclaimed, “I think they should!”
Fans thank Dolly Parton for her part in bringing back Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza
Dolly Parton has put a lot of good into the world. She’s helped children learn to read, she helped save eagles from extinction, she provided funding for the Moderna vaccine. And now, she’s had a hand in bringing back Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza.
When Yahoo Finance spoke to Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs in Feb. about Parton’s comments regarding the Mexican Pizza, he said: “It’s obviously a strength in the Taco Bell brand that there’s so much passion around the Mexican Pizza.”
While Gibbs couldn’t “confirm or deny any rumors” about the return of the fast food item at the time, no doubt, the seed had been planted. For just three months later, a beautiful Mexican Pizza flower has bloomed.
Is there anything Dolly can’t do?
“Dolly Parton helped develop the covid vaccine, gives all her employees free college, and got Taco Bell to bring back the Mexican pizza,” writes one Twitter user. “We don’t deserve her y’all.”
Another Twitter user tweeted that the return of the Mexican Pizza is the most interesting thing to come out of Coachella so far.
“More thots: Is coachella becoming uncool? The only buzz I heard from this Coachella is that @tacobell is bringing back the Mexican Pizza,” they wrote. “Thank you for all your hard work @DollyParton & @DojaCat!”
Doja Cat also played a big part in bringing the Mexican Pizza back
On April 18, Taco Bell posted on their website:
“While rumors of the Mexican Pizza’s return have been swirling for months, it hasn’t been publicly confirmed, until now. From petitions, to memorials, to merch, the Taco Bell cult has (rightfully) been all but silent about its menu hiatus. Doja Cat, the voice of the Taco Bell people, was one of the first to confirm the news this past weekend, when she literally dropped the mic with the HOT news of the Mexican Pizza’s return this May.”
Like Parton, Doja Cat is another famous Mexican Pizza fan. During her 2022 Coachella set, Doja announced that on May 19, Taco Bell will be bringing back her favorite item.
“I brought back the Mexican Pizza, by the way!” Doja yelled on stage.
“Our menu is full of fan-favorites, but the Mexican Pizza is at the top of that list,” said CEO of Taco Bell Mark King in a press release on the fast food site. “From its flashy introduction to menus in 1985 as ‘Pizzazz Pizza’ to its inspiration behind the creation of infamous jingles, Mexican Pizza has a long history with the brand and I’m glad we could give fans what they crave and bring our classic Mexican Pizza back home where it belongs.”
