NCT will put on a virtual concert on Dec. 27, however, Taeyong will not be performing in the concert. On Dec. 24, SM Entertainment issued an announcement that Taeyong will be taking a break from the K-pop group’s activities due to an injury. Because of this, Taeyong will not take part in “Beyond LIVE – NCT : RESONANCE ‘Global Wave.'”

SM Entertainment issued a statement about Taeyong

Taeyong debuted with NCT as part of the sub-unit NCT U in 2016. Later that year he debuted in and became the leader of the sub-unit NCT 127. In 2019, he joined the K-pop group SuperM, a joint collaboration between SM Entertainment and Capitol Records.

On Dec. 24, SM Entertainment released a statement about Taeyong’s injury and recovery, and according to Soompi the label said:

“Hello.

This is SM Entertainment.

We ask for the understanding of fans.

Member Taeyong’s herniated disk in his lower back has relapsed, so he will inevitably be absent from all scheduled activities including the Beyond LIVE – NCT : RESONANCE [Global Wave].

We ask for the generous understanding of fans, and we will do our best for Taeyong’s treatment so he can fully focus on recovering his health.

Thank you.”

What is a ‘Beyond Live’ concert?

In April 2020, SM Entertainment announced that it partnered with Naver to create a new streaming service to give fans a new way to view concerts virtually.

“Beyond Live will not only stream concerts online, but it will also provide additional digital contents. It may involve live chats between stars and fans and other digital technology to take the experience to another level,” SM Entertainment said in a statement.

The concert series was started amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to give K-pop fans around the world a way to virtually watch live shows. SuperM kicked off the first “Beyond Live” concert on April 26, and since then multiple SM Entertainment groups have put on a “Beyond Live” concert.

How to watch NCT’s ‘Beyond Live’ concert

This year, NCT kicked off NCT 2020, a project that combines all of the group’s sub-units. NCT 2020 also introduced two new members, Shotaro and Sungchan. The group released the albums NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1 on Oct. 12 and NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 2 on Nov. 23.

On Dec. 4, NCT released “Resonance, a single featuring all 23 members that combines “Make a Wish (Birthday Song),” “90’s Love,” “Work It,” and “Raise the Roof.”

“Beyond LIVE – NCT : RESONANCE ‘Global Wave'” will showcase NCT’s Resonance era. On the concert’s VLIVE page, SM Entertainment also issued a notice about Taeyong’s absence.

“We notify that TAEYONG will be unavoidably absent from the performance due to the injury. We ask for your understanding and please check the changed multi-cam plans for each artist,” reads the notice.

Because it is a broadcast of a new live performance, fans must purchase tickets as they would for an in-person concert. There are multiple broadcast options for fans to select from and purchase. The concert begins on Dec. 26 at 10 p.m. PST, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m, KST, and Dec. 27 at 1 a.m. EST.
