‘Taxi Driver’ Season 2: Esom Will Not Return to the K-Drama in Her Title Role
Every Korean drama fan has a sweet spot for crime thrillers. In 2021, Taxi Driver swept away K-drama fans with its unique take on revenge, justice, and heinous crimes. The K-drama used real-life cases as a basis for their episode storylines. The success of Taxi Driver led to a Taxi Driver Season 2, but one of its leading actors, Esom, will not be returning.
‘Taxi Driver’ K-drama is vengeance hidden in plain sight
The K-drama is not to be confused with the classic movie of the same name starring Robert De Niro. Taxi Driver is based on a webtoon called The Deluxe Taxi by Carlos and Lee Jae-jin. The story focuses on its leading character named Kim Do-gi (Lee Je-hoon). He is a decorated military graduate who finds his mother brutally murdered. The killer never receives the justice he deserves.
Do-gi no longer believes in the justice system. He is recruited to work for the Rainbow Taxi Company. Under the disguise of an ordinary company, Do-gi and the owner run a “revenge-call” service.
They allow select passengers the opportunity to seek revenge against their tormentors. The K-drama’s premise centers on the idea of doing what the legal system failed to do.
In Taxi Driver, Do-gi finds himself in trouble when a diligent prosecutor named Kang Ha-na (Esom) starts to unravel the mystery behind the service.
Esom will not return for ‘Taxi Driver’ Season 2 due to her schedule
According to Soompi, On July 6, 2021, SBS announced Taxi Driver Season 2 was in the works. The storyline is still unclear. According to Soompi, its leading actor Lee Je-hoon previously expressed his desire to return to the K-drama. Sadly, fans will not get to see Esom reprise her role as Ha-na.
JoyNews24 reported on March 8, 2021, that Esom has decided not to join the cast of Taxi Driver Season 2. According to Soompi, Esom’s agency Artist Company responded to the report saying the statement is true.
“Her casting was discussed, but it is difficult for her to star in the new season due to scheduling issues,” explained Esom’s agency. Esom is currently working and starring in three upcoming K-dramas, making her involvement in Taxi Driver Season 2 hard to manage.
The actor will star alongside Kim Woo-bin in the Netflix K-drama Black Knight (Delivery Knight) and the movies Starlight Falls and Gil Bok Soon. Fans will hopefully understand Esom’s predicament and decision.
Esom started her TV career in 2011
The South Korean actor is making her way as a notable actor on the small-screen. Esom made her career in movies, with her most recognizable work being Scarlett Innocence from 2014. While she began acting in 2010, her first TV role was 2011 in White Christmas.
Her TV accolades are fairly short, appearing in the hit romance K-drama Because This Is My First Life as Woo Su-ji. Her first leading role was in the romantic comedy The Third Charm. Esom also starred in the sequel to the mystery thriller K-drama Save Me. Taxi Driver is Esom’s biggest TV leading role.
