Taylor Swift might be well-known for her singing and songwriting abilities, but Damon Albarn didn’t think so. Swift entered the music business as a teenager, growing up in the spotlight. And she maintained a strong sense of self all the while.

Over the years, Swift has spoken out publicly against other artists and celebrities with whom she takes issue. In January 2022, she took to Twitter to call out fellow artist Albarn for his comments about her songwriting. Who else has she taken to task?

On January 24, 2022, Swift did something she doesn’t do all that often: Tweet. She tweeted at Albarn, frontman for the rock band Gorillaz. The Grammy-winning singer referenced an interview where Albarn claimed Swift “doesn’t write her own songs.”

Swift took issue with this remark. She told Albarn, “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs.” The songwriter continued, “Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f—– up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

Albarn responded, also on Twitter. He said he “totally agreed” with Swift’s assessment, calling the tweet she referenced “clickbait.” “I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally,” Albarn added.

Swift publicly feuded with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Swift has called out celebrities before. Perhaps most notable is her feud with Kanye West and his then-wife, Kim Kardashian. The tension between West and Swift started at the MTV VMAs in 2009. After they seemingly made up, it came to a peak in 2016, when Swift and West disagreed about his “Famous” song lyrics.

Swift claimed West never got her approval for the offending lyrics. Later, Kardashian got involved, sharing a video from a phone call between the rapper and the singer. Swift took to Twitter to try to extricate herself from the situation. “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet (via the BBC).

Swift’s social media confrontations with Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber

Many fans know about Swift’s public feud with celebrity manager Scooter Braun, who purchased the masters of her music catalog in 2019. It all began with a message involving Justin Bieber, Braun’s client. In a Tumblr post, Swift wrote about the “incessant bullying” brought on by Braun and his clients. She also shared a picture from Bieber’s Instagram, featuring Braun, Bieber, and West, a former Braun client.

Bieber apologized to Swift on Instagram. But he claimed Swift wasn’t “fair” to take the feud to social media to garner fan support. Swift didn’t respond to Bieber’s post — at least, not publicly.

Possibly Swift’s most high-profile public feud involves former U.S. President Donald Trump. Swift was open about her dislike of Trump’s policies, especially after going public with her Democratic political leanings. In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Swift called Trump “a political opponent who was weaponizing the idea of the celebrity endorsement.”

Swift pushed back at Trump on social media, tagging the then-president before the most recent presidential election and calling him out for “stoking the fires of white supremacy.” It’s clear Swift has no problem sharing her feelings on everything from political figures to her musical peers.
