Musician Taylor Swift released a new album in 2020, much to the surprise of her fans. Many believed this year would be about touring for her 2019 album Lover and re-recording her old music. Though the former didn’t happen due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the latter endeavor is still a go — albeit with some possible changes.

When Swift departed Big Machine Records for her new label, Republic Records, in 2018, she both gained and lost something. While she gained ownership of all of her master recordings moving forward, she couldn’t purchase those of her first six albums. So she decided to re-record them.

Two years after signing with Republic, the artist is finally able to do this. “I have recently begun re-recording my older music and it has already proven to be both exciting and creatively fulfilling,” Swift tweeted in November 2020. “I have plenty of surprises in store,” she added.

She spoke about this on ‘Good Morning America’

That month, Swift came on Good Morning America to talk about her concert film Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions. She also answered George Stephanopoulos’ daughter’s question about what song she’s most excited to re-record. “I think it’s been the most fun doing ‘Love Story,'” Swift said of her Fearless single.

“Sometimes, when I hear my older music and my older, young teenage voice, it makes me feel like I’m a different singer now,” Swift continued. So it’s been the most fun to go back and re-record ones that I feel like I could possibly improve upon the song. That’s been a really amazing, fun adventure.”

The internet recognized her location

If there’s one thing Swifties are great at, it’s finding Easter eggs. And they discovered one during the interview. “Fans have noticed that it appears that the location where Taylor Swift filmed her @GMA interview this morning appears to be Marcus Mumford from @MumfordAndSons home studio,” tweeted a fan account.

Swift doesn’t have a history with the folk band. However, her friend actor Dianna Agron (best known for starring in Glee) is married to lead guitarist Winston Marshall. (They separated in 2020.) Regardless, the studio was immediately identifiable due to the panels on the wall and the lamp behind Swift in the video.

Is Swift recording with Mumford & Sons?

So what is Swift doing in Mumford’s studio? The obvious answer would be working with the lead singer. “Excuse me @taylorswift13 please explain to me why you’re in Marcus Mumford’s studio and why this obviously means a collaboration is coming which will make me LOSE MY MIND,” tweeted one fan.

But there are other possible explanations. Because Swift’s in the re-recording process, some think that she’s going to include Mumford on one of her old songs. And one suggested he could replace Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody on her Red single “The Last Time.” However, it’s not likely Swift will confirm this theory any time soon.
