Taylor Swift Finally Clears up ‘a Very Pressing Issue’: The Whereabouts of Her Cat, Meredith
Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift often deals with rumors about her personal life, from who she’s dating to who she’s feuding with. Though she often chooses not to address them, she made a different decision when it came to questions about one of her cats. What did Swift tell her fans about her cat, Meredith?

Swift’s made her love for cats very obvious over the years. Long before she starred in the movie musical Cats, her fans knew her as someone who adores felines. And she even has three of her own. Swift bought her first cat, named for the titular character from the show Greys Anatomy, Meredith, in 2011.
Next, the musician brought home her second cat (above) in 2014. And once again, she named the pet for the main character from another TV drama. Olivia (after Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU) joined her “sister” as one of Swift’s beloved Scottish Folds.
Finally, the Grammy winner adopted her third cat in 2019. While filming the music video for her lead Lover single, “Me!” she worked with a kitten. When Swift found out that he was up for adoption, she couldn’t resist making him hers. So little Benjamin Button (after the Brad Pitt movie) came to join the others.
Fans began to worry about Meredith
Like any good pet owner, Swift often shares photos and videos of her pets. However, over the last couple of years, fans noticed that Benjamin and Olivia made more appearances than Meredith. This sparked some concern among the most well-meaning of them.
“question,” tweeted one in 2017. “what happened to taylor swift’s other cat meredith” adding, “is meredith dead?” Though mostly jokes, some really did worry about the feline. When Swift mentioned Olivia and not Meredith in an Instagram Story after the 2021 Grammys, more questions arose.

On April 16, 2021, Swift celebrated her album, Fearless (Taylor’s Version). “WELL WELL WELL you all really went out and left my greatest expectations in shambles this week,” she tweeted one week after its release. “Word on the street is you made Fearless (my version) the biggest country album 1st week of the last 6 years & the top release of 2021 so far. Honestly?? How?? Did I get this lucky??”
She added, “I wanted to say thank you to you so today I will be addressing a very pressing issue.” Swift attached a video all about Meredith.
It turns out that Meredith is ‘a really private little cat’
“We’ve been hearing some rumors on the internet recently,” Swift began while holding Benjamin. “I mean, they’re not about you Benj, but they’re about your sister.” A bunch of tweets and comments from fans popped up, asking about Meredith. Then, the text read, “The truth is, Meredith just HATES having her picture taken.”
Shots of Meredith appeared on screen, with warning labels on them. “So yup, there you have it,” Swift told her audience. That’s the explanation. She’s just a really private little cat. She likes her business kept to herself.” The singer added a pointed note. “She doesn’t like a camera shoved in her face. And really, who can blame her?”
Swift ended with a video of her following Meredith around with a camera, asking, “So, do you have any comment on the recent allegations that you’re a missing cat?” Meredith, true to form, runs and hides from the camera.
