Taylor Swift Once Got Candid About Miley Cyrus; ‘She Doesn’t Hold Anything Back’
Though Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus couldn’t be more different, they actually boast a few similarities. They are both highly-successful singers and songwriters who have amassed fan bases comprised of millions of people. They both got their start at very young ages and have been extremely famous for more than half their lives. Cyrus and Swift even starred and sang in the same movie once upon a time.
Superfans of Swift will recall that she made a cameo in Cyrus’ hit movie Hannah Montana: The Movie. The film was, of course, a continuation of Cyrus’ hit Disney Channel show, Hannah Montana. Though the singers didn’t have any dialogue together in the movie, the folklore artist performed a song in the film, a sweet ballad called “Crazier.” But what was it like for Swift to join a franchise that already had such wild popularity?
Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus were both in ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’
Back in 2009, Swift gave an interview about what it was really like to star in Cyrus’ film. According to Swift, she really enjoyed the experience. “It’s so cool to become a part of the Hannah Montana phenomenon that’s taking over the world right now,” the Grammy winner declared. “Honestly, it’s just so cool because ever since I figured out that I was, you know, gonna be able to be in this movie, umm every time a little girl will come through one of my signing lines or every single time I’ll see a little girl in one of my meet and greets and she’s got a Hannah Montana shirt on I wanna be like, ‘Guess what, I get to be in that movie.'”
Swift certainly wasn’t lying when she declared that Hannah Montana was a phenomenon. The wildly popular show catapulted Cyrus into superstardom and was a massive cash cow for Disney. But the success wasn’t always easy for Cyrus to wrap around her head. In fact, she recently shared on an episode of Rock This with Allison Hagendorf that the show was a bit psychologically damaging for her.
Cyrus on how the ‘Hannah Montana’ fame affected her
“The concept of the show is that when you’re this character, when you have this alter ego, you’re valuable,” Cyrus confessed. “You’ve got like millions of fans, you’re like the biggest star in the world. And then the concept was that when I looked like myself, when I didn’t have the wig on anymore, that no one cared about me. I wasn’t a star anymore.”
While Cyrus may have been struggling internally, she did a good job of putting on a brave face externally. In the same 2009 interview, Swift sang Cyrus’ praises when asked what it was like to work with the star of Hannah Montana.
Swift got candid about what it was like with fellow songwriter, Cyrus
“Miley is pretty much the same person off camera that you see on camera,” Swift shared about Cyrus. “She is so just, outgoing, and everything is big and huge and awesome. And she’s just such a positive person, you know, and she’s just not reserved. She doesn’t hold anything back which is one of my favorite things about her.”
