What did Taylor Swift say about being booed at the Super Bowl? A lip reader has the answer after examining the Grammy winner’s reaction to boos from the crowd in New Orleans, La., at Ceasars Superdome. What the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer said, ahead.

Taylor Swift booed at Super Bowl LIX

Like every Super Bowl before it, Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, 2025, had many memorable—and unexpected—moments. Ahem, Grammy winner Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show and his viral bootcut jeans. Celebrity appearances from the likes of Anne Hathaway and Serena Williams, just to name a few.

Among the many surprises of the evening was a not-so-nice surprise for Swift. Yes, she watched as her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs failed to secure a “threepeat” against the Philadelphia Eagles with a 40-22 final score. But she also got a surprise when the crowd booed her.

Swift was shown on the jumbotron at the Super Bowl—wearing a white tank top, denim shorts, and her “T” thigh charm from the Grammys repurposed as a necklace—as boos could be heard in the crowd. It came as the “So High School” singer sat in a VIP suite with rapper Ice Spice, Ashley Avignone, her brother Austin, the Haim sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana, and Kelce’s parents Donna and Ed.

What Taylor said about being booed at the Super Bowl: ‘Aw what?’

So how did the “Fortnight” singer react to being booed? Lip reading expert NJ Hickling took a closer look at footage of Swift and determined she had a pretty straightforward response. Swift, 35, appeared to ask Ice Spice, “Aw, what? What’s going on?” Hickling told the Daily Mail

Swift’s question came after she gave some intense side-eye and a smile, which quickly went viral on social media. The moment followed a report in the days leading up to the Super Bowl that the pop star didn’t want to be the “center of attention” at the big game.

Elsewhere during the Super Bowl, Swift went viral for her worried expression as she stood at the railing while Kelce and the Chiefs trailed the Eagles.

Sorry, Tayvis/Traylor fans. There was no on-field PDA (public display of affection) from Kelce and Swift at Super Bowl LIX. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end reportedly went to see Swift—and his family and friends—after his team lost, per USA Today

Their private moment following the game majorly contrasted last year’s Super Bowl. Swift took the field after the Chiefs’ nail-bitter 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. She and Kelce kissed in front of cameras and said “I love you” to each other in a very public display of PDA for the couple.

Now fans must wait until next season to see Swift in the stands at Kelce’s football games.
