Thanks, Taylor Swift! Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting a big boost after the Grammy winner posed for a royal selfie at her London, England, “Eras” tour concert. Research shows the photo of the Prince of Wales and his oldest children, Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 9, with Swift has helped the heir to the throne and the Princess of Wales on social media.

William, George, and Charlotte took a selfie with Taylor Swift at her London concert

Not only did William and his two oldest children get to go to Swift’s show—on his birthday, no less—they got to meet her backstage. William turned 42 on June 21, 2024, the same day Swift kicked off three nights at Wembley Stadium.

A photo posted to William and Kate’s official Instagram account showed the three royals smiling as they stood with Swift. “Thank you @taylorswift for a great evening! #LondonTSTheErastour,” the caption read.

Kate, who has a “few months” left of preventative chemotherapy treatment, is believed to have stayed home with her and William’s youngest child, 6-year-old Prince Louis

According to a Hello! report, the meeting—and presumably the selfie—almost didn’t happen. “They had a nightmare getting in,” an insider said of George, Charlotte, and William. “They were running really late, but they had planned to get there earlier so they could have the meet and greet with Taylor beforehand because they knew they wanted to leave early.”

“They only had 25 minutes to spare so had a quick meet and greet and then went up to their box before the show,” they added, noting there’d been “a bit of stress and panic about that because it was taking too long.”

Meanwhile, Swift shared a selfie on her own Instagram. It showed her standing next to William, Charlotte, and George with the addition of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. (The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has since described William as “the coolest.”

“Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start,” Swift captioned her post.

The photo with Taylor Swift showcased William and Kate Middleton’s ‘modern approach’

According to Thomas Moore, the director of Viralyft from analytics platform Social Blade, that one selfie has done a lot for William and Kate.

“Prince William’s presence at the Taylor Swift concert with his children has generated widespread media coverage and social media buzz,” Moore said (via Express).

Indeed, it did. William went viral for his so-called “dad dancing” to “Shake It Off,” a hit track from Swift’s “1989” album. (A clip of William’s moves was even posted to the official “Eras” tour X account.)

“The concert, attended by thousands of fans, provided a perfect backdrop for the royals to connect with a younger, more diverse audience,” he continued.

“Their engagement in such [a] popular event demonstrates their modern approach and relatability, resonating with the public and boosting their social media following significantly.”

William and Kate have gained more than 200,000 social media followers since posting the Taylor Swift selfie
