Taylor Swift’s 2 Reasons for Missing Travis Kelce’s Games Have Nothing to Do With Their Relationship: Report
Where is Taylor Swift? That’s the question many asked when her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, took the field at two away games for the Kansas City Chiefs without her in the stands. There are reportedly two reasons the Grammy winner wasn’t there to cheer the Super Bowl winner on as she’s done at previous games. And it has nothing to do with their relationship.
Security is partly why Taylor wasn’t at Travis Kelce’s games
The “Down Bad” singer skipped Chiefs games two weeks in a row—on Sept. 22 and Sept. 29—after attending the first two games of the season at Arrowhead Stadium. No sooner had Swift skipped Kelce’s games did speculation begin churning about potential trouble in their relationship. But it seems they’re doing just fine.
As an insider told Page Six, Swift missing Kelce’s games had to do with security, not their relationship. “If she is going to a place that isn’t Arrowhead, there are security concerns,” the source said. “She has worked with Arrowhead so many times, they feel at ease and comfortable. Going to all kinds of different stadiums, you need to send a team in advance.”
It comes after reports Swift increased security measures following canceled shows in Vienna, Austria, over the summer due to a terror attack plot.
Prepping for the Eras Tour also contributed to Swift not being there
The same insider also cited Swift’s busy schedule as a reason for her absence from Kelce’s games. She’s said to be busy rehearsing for the final leg of her Eras Tour, which resumes on Oct. 18, 2024, with concerts in Miami, Florida.
Swift’s absences happened amid criticism of Kelce’s performance on the field so far this season, which some have blamed on his private life. But it seems the pair are unbothered. “They are both tough people,” the source said. However, they did admit Swift’s absences have given her and Kelce “a break” from constant criticism.
Travis previously said he doesn’t expect sports girlfriends ‘to go to all the games’
Kelce’s probably not bothered Swift has skipped two of his games this season considering a past comment about WAGS, or wives and girlfriends of professional athletes. While promoting Catching Kelce, his 2016 Bachelor-style dating show, he told WhoSay that being at every game isn’t something he expects of WAGS.
“If you’re dating a professional athlete, I do not believe, at least for me, that you have to go to all the games,” he said (via Page Six). “I mean, there’s eight home games, eight away games, plus playoffs. I don’t even expect my parents and my friends to make every single game.”
He also shared that he’d like his future girlfriend to “cheer when we’re doing awesome.” (Swift definitely has that part covered.)
Swift could spend a long weekend in Kansas City for Travis’ birthday, Chiefs home game
The Swift drought at Kelce’s games may end soon. He and the Chiefs will be back to playing at Arrowhead Stadium on Oct. 7, 2024. (They’re scheduled to take on the New Orleans Saints.) Meaning Swift could very well show up, like she has many times in the past, in Kelce’s suite to cheer him on.
Another factor that could bring Swift back to Kansas City soon is Kelce’s birthday. He turns 35 on Oct. 5, 2024. He’s marking the occasion with Kelce Car Jam, an “outdoor block party” in the city’s downtown area benefiting his 87 and Running non-profit (via Eventbrite).
And, who knows, maybe the “Fortnight” singer will make a surprise appearance there? Or perhaps she’ll celebrate privately. (She and Kelce are said to enjoy their “downtime” together.) Fans will just have to wait and see how Swift and Kelce spend the last few weeks before the Eras Tour resumes.
