‘Ted Lasso’: Juno Temple Thinks Keeley Wants Roy and Jamie to ‘Help Each Other’

In 'Ted Lasso,' Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt do not get along. Even though they hate one another, it is clear they have more in common than the two characters want to admit. In an interview with Awards Daily, Juno Temple shared that Keeley Jones hopes Roy and Jamie will be friends one day.

In Ted Lasso, Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) are rivals. The two cannot stand one another, but both have an affection for Keeley Jones (Juno Temple). Jamie and Keeley dated at the beginning of season 1 of Ted Lasso, but the two broke up and Keeley started dating Roy. By the second season of the Apple TV+ series, Roy and Keeley are in a solidified relationship while Jamie is working on himself. In an interview with Awards Daily, Temple shared that Keeley unconsciously hopes Roy and Jamie will “help each other” given their similarities.

Keeley knows Roy and Jamie are ‘more similar than they would like’ in ‘Ted Lasso’

When Jamie and Roy both played at AFC Richmond, the two constantly argued. Jamie was the younger all-star player in his prime while Roy was the team’s captain and was past his glory days. Even though Keeley ends up dating Roy for his maturity, she still recognizes that Jamie has the potential to grow.

Speaking with Awards Daily, Temple shared that Roy and Jamie are actually quite “similar.”

“Yes, I think Roy is someone who has lived a Jamie Tartt moment already, and Keeley knows that. I think that Jamie is somebody who Keeley needs guidance and Roy would be a good person to help him through that ultimately, having walked the walk and talked the talk already,” she said.

Temple continued, “I think that’s where a lot of their friction comes from, is actually [them] being more similar than they would like to let on. Keeley knows that about each of them. She also knows that they both have these really big hearts and ultimately want to be seen for more than the football players that they are and want to be loved.”

Keeley wants Roy and Jamie ‘to potentially help each other’

While Jamie and Roy eventually put their differences aside so they are not constantly fighting, they do not become friends. In season 2 of Ted Lasso, both Roy and Jamie are trying to find their place in the world, and Keeley attempts to help them both.

With Roy, Keeley helps him as his partner, and with Jamie, Keeley tries to help him as a friend. In her interview with Awards Daily, Temple acknowledged that deep down, Keeley hopes Jamie and Roy will “help each other.”

“I don’t think she’s unaware of the fact that she wants Roy and Jamie to potentially help each other out, because I do think she sees their similarities. But she also knows that that’s going to happen in its own time if it’s going to happen at all,” Temple told Awards Daily.

Even though Keeley and Jamie broke up, the two remain on friendly terms. In season 2 of Ted Lasso, Jamie frequently goes to Keeley for advice.

“I think the other gorgeous thing about Keeley, with her relationship with Jamie Tartt, when that relationship ends, it doesn’t end end—she’s still invested in helping Jamie be the best version of himself,” Temple told Awards Daily.

New episodes of season 2 of Ted Lasso premiere on Apple TV+ each Friday.
