‘Teen Mom 2’: Kailyn Lowry Writes Not Liking Jo Rivera’s Wife Vee Torres Had Nothing to Do With Jealousy
Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry used to not get along with her ex’s wife. Jo Rivera, the father of Lowry’s first child, married a woman named Vee Torres in 2018 (Lowry attended the wedding). Though Lowy and Torres are friends today, the women had a tense relationship when Torres began dating Rivera.
In her 2014 book, Pride Over Pity, Lowry goes into why exactly she had it in for Rivera’s then-girlfriend.
Kailyn Lowry didn’t approve of Vee Torres’ smoking and drinking
“I had no jealousy or hatred for his new girlfriend, only anger. He had started seeing a girl who I suspected might be a pot smoker. I hadn’t smoked weed singe I got pregnant with Isaac and it is something I no longer want in our lives. I had expected others would respect that I did not want my son to be around mind-altering substances,” wrote Lowry.
Based on Torres’ social media, Lowry had a feeling Rivera’s then-girlfriend casually drank and smoked marijuana.
“She posted pictures online of herself wearing a gas mask and smoking out of what looked like a bong. It seemed this was beyond an anxiety reducing self-medicating pastime. I was afraid it was a bad habit my son could potentially pick up one day. There was no way I wanted Isaac to be around weed or alcohol. I understand the full, detrimental repercussions. All I asked of Jo was that he keep Isaac away from it,” wrote Lowry.
Eventually, Lowry came across a few posts that led her to believe Torres had been drinking around Isaac.
“I was furious. If true, there was nothing I could do about the situation, but I didn’t want her around my son,” she wrote.
Lowry received a lot of backlash from fans about her reaction to Torres’ drinking. She says the messages she received “infuriated [her] more than typical hate mail.” Lowry’s especially sensitive about drinking because she grew up with an alcoholic mother. So she feels strongly about not having her children around alcohol.
Kailyn Lowry says she was just trying to protect her son
Lowry says, back when Rivera and Torres first started dating, her anger was never about who Torres was as a person or even that she was with her ex, she just felt concerned for her son’s well-being.
“I’m not jealous. The Jo of my life was over long ago. I’ve given up on providing Isaac with two parents who are together yet miserable,” she wrote.
Lowry continued: “She will never see where I’m coming from, and I’d rather not waste any more breath trying to explain why I can’t pretend to like her or reason with her. It’s done. I’ll always be the bad person. I’ll always be the bitter ex.”
Little did Lowry know, a few years later she’d be saying she loves Torres and hates Rivera.
