‘Teen Mom OG’: Amber Portwood Seemingly Regrets Her Instagram Live Rant; Fans React
The latest episode of Teen Mom OG certainly elicited an extreme response from Amber Portwood. After seeing recent footage from the show, the reality TV star went live on Instagram to give her thoughts about her ex-boyfriend, Gary Shirley, his wife, Kristina Shirley, and the daughter that Portwood shares with Gary, Leah Shirley. However many fans of the show believe Portwood’s reaction was over the line.
The trouble started after the latest episode of Teen Mom OG aired. In the episode, Leah expressed to her dad and stepmom that she felt that she didn’t have a “bond” with Portwood. The 12-year-old also declared that all Amber did was give birth to her. Naturally, these comments were upsetting to Portwood, and she chose to place blame at Kristina’s feet.

Portwood jumped on Instagram and immediately began hurling insults at Kristina. She called her a liar and a homewrecker. “When you’re a wh*e, you’re a wh*e,” The Teen Mom OG star declared. “When you’re a homewrecker, you’re a homewrecker.” Continuing on, Portwood declared that the only reason Leah had a relationship with Kristina was that her stepmom spoils her.
“[Leah] respects her because she brings her out to Starbucks, gets her nails done, and spends over a thousand something dollars of clothing on her,” Portwood shared about Kristina. She continued on to add that Kristina didn’t really take care of Leah but just placated her with expensive gifts. She also accused Gary of spoiling their child. Naturally, many Teen Mom OG fans were unimpressed by Portwood’s claims. However, a recent Instagram post seems to suggest that Portwood regrets making some of her statements.

“God knows I’m not perfect, either,” reads a quote that Portwood recently posted to her Instagram page alongside the caption ‘feeling this.’ “I’ve made tons of stupid mistakes, and later I regretted them. And I’ve done it over and over again, thousands of times; a cycle of hollow joy and vicious self-hatred. But even so, every time I learned something about myself.”
Though posting a quote is hardly an apology, Teen Mom OG fans seem to think that Portwood may be rethinking how she handled herself. However, some people were unimpressed with how she dealt with the situation and were equally unimpressed by how she’s expressing regret.
Fans think Portwood’s outbursts are hurting her daughter, Leah
“Shame you don’t learn to stop bad-mouthing the people who have stood by you and held you up when others have washed their hands of you,” one Teen Mom OG fan wrote in Portwood’s comments. “Your rant the other night was disgusting. Imagine how Leah will feel when she sees it. You spout about love and positivity and then shoot poison in the next breath.”
Other Teen Mom OG fans that Portwood’s reactions were only further damaging her relationship with her daughter. “If this is how Leah feels then it’s up to you to change her mind Instead of lashing out and always being combative,” another person chimed in. “Being combative shows her you don’t care, (instead of trying to fix it). You throw blame and shade You are pushing her even farther away.”

However, some fans seemed to really sympathize with Portwood’s feelings and urged her to create some special time with Leah so they could bond. “I hope you can find some time for self care and self love and then some time for a girls trip with Leah somewhere special when this pandemic is over! No parent is perfect – keep trying,” on Teen Mom OG fan declared.
Parenting is challenging and we imagine it’s even more challenging when so many decisions are documented for Teen Mom OG. While Portwood may not have apologized publicly, we can only hope that she’s working on her relationship with Leah and the people co-parenting her daughter in private.
