Tekashi 6ix9ine Says ‘There’s No Difference Between Me and Tupac’ in New Interview
With an album dropping on Sept. 4, Tekashi 6ix9ine is hitting the media circuit to discuss his past, present, and future.
The “Trollz” rapper completed his prison sentence in August and after taking a brief hiatus from social media to relocate, is back on the scene in full force — with protection in tow.
6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, recently sat down to discuss his federal case, his career, and why he thinks he’s like Tupac.
Tekashi 6ix9ine feels he atoned for child sex crime
For those who aren’t aware, in 2015, Tekashi 69 was arrested for a child sex crime charge. He recorded a 13-year-old victim engaging in multiple sex acts and uploaded it to social media. The judge sentenced him to four years of probation after he pleaded guilty to using a child in a sexual performance.
During an interview with The New York Times, he was asked if he felt he atoned for the crime. 6ix9ine replied, “Of course. No other celebrity gives back as much as Daniel Hernandez.” He added that he was 18 when it happened and said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
He insisted he took responsibility for his actions by turning himself in and taking the punishment. When asked about his reaction to finding out the girl’s real age, 6ix9ine said, “That tore me apart. My whole life felt like it was coming crashing down.”
Tekashi 69 also admits he abused ex Sara Molina
The candid interview also touched on the rapper’s need for attention, his testimony against the Nine Trey Bloods, and domestic violence accusations.
6ix9ine flat out admitted he physically abused his daughter’s mother, Sara Molina, when they were together. He stated he doesn’t think it’s ok to put his hands on a woman and acknowledged that his daughter will discover these details when she gets older.
He told The Times he admitted his wrongs and apologized. “I’m telling you, I did it. I admit to it, and I apologize. I don’t owe the world an apology, the person I owe an apology to is Sara Molina. She got that apology.”
Tekashi compares himself to Tupac Shakur
When asked about whether he thinks he deserves fame after his string of wrongdoings, he said no, but then invoked Tupac. “Tupac Shakur was convicted of rape,” he said. “Is Tupac Shakur loved or hated? Loved!” What’s the difference between me and Tupac Shakur? I never caught a rape charge — ever.”
The Times challenged 6ix9ine by citing that Tupac created art and put messages in his music that he wanted to do better. However, Tekashi suggested that he’s doing the same thing with his music and compared lyrics in Tupac’s “Troublesome ‘96” to his own track, “Billy.”
The “GOOBA” rapper defended himself against the idea that his music isn’t versatile like Tupac’s by stating, “I got to feed what in 2020 is relevant. I got to feed the masses. There’s no difference between me and Tupac Shakur.”
6ix9ine shared that he genuinely loves music (just like he loves attention) and has no plans to change what he raps about. He said his fans don’t want that and right now, he wants to keep topping the charts.
