Jannik Sinner turned pro in 2018 and has become a star in the sport of tennis. He is the first Italian to reach No. 1 in the world ranking and earned his first major title after an upset victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Australian Open. He then defeated Daniil Medvedev in a five-set final, coming back from two sets down.

But Sinner’s name has been in the news for a few other reasons such as his relationship with girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya, a feud with another tennis player, and a doping scandal. Here’s more on all that and what we know about Kalinskaya.

Like Sinner, Kalinskaya is a professional athlete

Like Sinner, Kalinskaya is a professional tennis player.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1998, in Moscow to father Nikolay and mother Elena, both her parents are former professional badminton players. She moved to the U.S. when she was 14 years old to pursue her tennis career but later returned to her home country to be closer to her family. Kalinskaya has reached a career-high world ranking of No. 11 in singles.

While it’s unclear when exactly she and Sinner started dating, the pair were spotted throughout 2024 supporting each other during matches which had fans buzzing with romance rumors.

Sinner confirmed they were together in May 2024 at the French Open saying: “I don’t like to talk about my private life much, but yes, Anna and I are dating.”

Then in September of that same year, the couple publicly displayed their love when they shared a kiss at the U.S. Open.

Kalinskaya dated another tennis player before Skinner

In January 2025, a feud between Sinner and outspoken tennis player Nick Kyrgios made headlines. The latter was accused of having a “personal vendetta” against Sinner, which sports commentator Jon Wertheim believes is because Kyrgios used to date Kalinskaya.

Kyrgios criticized Sinner after he tested positive for the prohibited substance clostebol, a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid. Sinner claimed the substance entered his system unintentionally as a result of a massage from his physiotherapist. The New York Post reported that Sinner was given a one-month ban for twice testing positive after an investigation found it was unintentional. But Kyrgios has called for a harsher punishment against the star.

On the podcast Served with Andy Roddick, Wertheim weighed in on Kyrgios’ reasoning for commenting on Sinner’s doping ban insisting that it has to do with Kalinskaya. Wertheim opined: “This is just a personal vendetta. There is a woman involved here, who also happens to be a player. Sinner has been relentlessly bullied for months and months and hasn’t responded … There’s so much going on here, but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with bona fide concerns about doping.”

Kyrgios and Kalinskaya briefly dated but split up in May 2020.

There have been rumors recently that Sinner and Kalinskaya have broken up

Just before the start of 2025, rumors began swirling that Sinner and Kalinskaya were “taking a break” from their relationship.

Adding fuel to the breakup rumors is the fact that Kalinskaya unfollowed Sinner on Instagram after an interview with Esquire when he said: “Having a girlfriend is something that either makes you feel good or makes you feel bad. I want it to be something that feels very natural, which comes into my life normally. I can’t afford to change as a player or as a person. That hasn’t happened, and that’s why it works.”

The two have not commented on the current status of their relationship.
