Teyana Taylor Debuts Scandalous Dress of Full-Body Cut-Outs at CFDA Awards as Some Say She’s the Next Winner
Teyana Taylor has blossomed into a fashion superstar from her humble beginnings as a background dancer and vocalist. It’s not often that a reality TV star translates into an internationally recognized style icon like Taylor. Naturally, she received an invitation to the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s annual gala, often called the industry’s Oscars. Taylor did not disappoint, debuting a scandalously sexy and modern look.
Teyana Taylor’s CFDA look was a cut (or 15) above the rest
Although many celebrities showed off avant-garde outfits, Taylor’s may have been the sexiest. The 33-year-old wore a black knit dress from LaQuan Smith’s 2024 Fall/Winter campaign. The NYC-based luxury womenswear brand aims to highlight the female body via figure-hugging catsuits and revealing cut-out dresses. Taylor was the perfect fit for his look.
Teyana Taylor‘s LaQuan Smith look involved 15 cut-outs starting at the underboob and ending at the ankles. The dress left little to the imagination, showing off the Harlem native’s incredible figure and various tattoos. Taylor added strappy black square-toe heels and minimal jewelry, replacing earrings with Bottega Veneta Drop Aviator Sunglasses. These black and gold sunnies feature the label’s unique temple with a signature gold drop.
In addition to her head-turning dress, Taylor wore a floor-length sheepskin jacket, also by Smith, who attended the CFDA Awards with another fashion muse, Victoria Monét. Taylor took to Instagram to show off her look. Commenters remarked, “This is the next Cat Women for her generation!!” and “Can’t wait til you’re winning fashion icon award at CFDA!”
Teyana Taylor, fashion icon?
Regarding her eligibility for the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award, Taylor could someday win the honor. The council introduced the award in 2010, with supermodel Iman as the first recipient. Since then, Lady Gaga, Johnny Depp, Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Zendaya, Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, Franca Sozzani, and Serena Williams have received the Icon Award. Taylor would certainly be in good company.
In 2024, Erykah Badu earned the coveted award. The Grammy winner’s style is a captivating fusion of eclectic, bohemian, and avant-garde influences. She often incorporates towering headwraps, and unique jewelry rooted in Afrocentric elements. Approaching fashion as an art form, Badu infuses it with meaning, rebellion, and mystique for a deeply soulful approach to style. Taylor certainly has her work cut out for her if she hopes to measure up at the CFDA Awards someday.
