Arie Luyendyk Jr. tested positive for the coronavirus
Luyendyk let fans of The Bachelor know about his diagnosis on Thanksgiving. The former reality TV star posted a video on his Instagram story, and in the video he was seen social-distancing from his wife Lauren Burnham Luyendyk and their daughter Alessi.
“All right, many of you have been wondering why we haven’t done Bachelor Brunch, why we’ve been so absent on social media, and why I’m sitting like 25 feet away from the girls. It’s cause I actually tested positive for COVID,” he said.
Luyendyk continued, “It was like nine days ago so tomorrow I get to go in and see if I’m all clear. It’s been rough, I gotta say it’s not been easy being separated. I’ve been on the other side of the house. Lauren has been really sweet. She’s been keeping me fed. She just slides some food outside and then I go get it.”
Arie Luyendyk Jr. described his symptoms for fans of ‘The Bachelor’
After letting fans know that he tested positive for the coronavirus, Luyendyk was tested again 10 days after his symptoms began. This test came back negative, and he shared the results on his Instagram story.
On Nov. 28, Luyendyk shared a video on his Instagram story of him finally being able to spend time with his family. He encouraged fans to submit questions about his experience with the coronavirus.
Fans asked what his symptoms were like and he replied, “Headache the first day followed by coughing, extreme exhaustion then night sweats. The third day my chest felt really tight like someone was standing on me. Laying on my stomach helped a lot and by day 4-5 I was feeling more normal.”
Luyendyk continued, “I never had a fever but I did sweat a lot at night. The other symptom I had and still have is exhaustion. I get so tired doing the smallest things.”
The former Bachelor does not know how he contracted the virus
Using Instagram stories, Luyendyk answered more questions submitted by fans. One fan asked how he caught the coronavirus, but Luyendyk was unsure.
“Honestly been replaying the past few weeks back but there is no real way to know. We wear masks anytime we leave the house. Possible places could be the vet, grocery store. Wasn’t exposed to anyone to my knowledge,” the former Bachelor wrote.
Even though no fans asked if Luyendyk had to contact trace and let people in his life know he contracted the virus, he decided to answer anyway.
“I had to have that conversation with a couple people that I’d been around days prior to showing any symptoms,” he said. “Everyone that we hung out with has not shown any symptoms of COVID.”
Luyendyk also expressed that he is grateful his symptoms were only mild given that the virus affects everyone differently.
