The Bachelor often invites celebrity guests onto the show to help guide the leads on their love journey. In 2019, comedian Billy Eichner stopped by The Bachelor to assist Colton Underwood. While guest-starring, Eichner did what he does best and made some jokes, poking fun at the situation. But one of Eichner’s jokes, which lightly jabbed at the deeply heterosexual television show, rang true when Underwood came out as gay.

Colton Underwood came out as gay after leading ‘The Bachelor’

Underwood appeared on Good Morning America on April 14 with journalist Robin Roberts and revealed that he is gay. The past lead discussed his relationship with final rose pick Cassie Randolph, repressing his sexuality growing up, and how he feels now.

“This year’s been a lot for a lot of people,” the former football player said. “It’s probably made a lot of people look at themselves in the mirror and figure out who they are and what they’ve been running from or what they’ve been putting off in their lives.”

He continued: “I hated myself for a long time. I’m gay and I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it. The next step in all of this was letting people know. I’m still nervous, but yeah it’s been a journey for sure.”

Underwood claimed that he’s the “happiest and healthiest” he’s ever been. Weirdly, Eichner appearing on The Bachelor when Underwood led his season predicted this all in a strange way.

Billy Eichner appeared on ‘The Bachelor’ and predicted the future

Eichner showed up on The Bachelor to act as a “camp counselor” on a group date between Underwood and the contestants. Underwood had heard of Eichner before, and said in an in-the-moment interview: “Billy Eichner is very hilarious. He just says what’s on his mind and I’m a big fan.”

The comedian and the lead then sat down for a lighthearted conversation. Eichner brought up how Underwood said he was a virgin and made some jokes about that at first. Then, Eichner spoke about being a gay man.

“I’m gay, I know that’s a shock, Colton,” Eichner said. “That, I think, you should look into. Maybe you’re the first gay bachelor and we don’t even know. Put that in your promo! See ya later!”

Underwood was speechless in the clip but laughed off the joke. After Underwood came out and turned out to be the first gay bachelor, Eichner commented on the segment — and so did the former lead.

After the video clip resurfaced when Underwood came out as gay, Eichner and Underwood both commented on it. The video in a way strangely prophesized the future of Underwood coming out.

“I’m happy for @colton,” the comedian wrote on Twitter. “If you’re gay, be gay! I’ve been gay forever & I love it!”

Eichner also shared the clip on his Instagram account and Underwood commented.

“Love you,” he expressed. “Love this (now) and now I love being gay.”

Well, as a user on Twitter said… that certainly did age well.
