‘The Bachelor’: Could Demi Burnett be the First Bisexual Bachelorette?
Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor is slowly but surely winding down. Which, of course, means that we are getting close to finding out who steals the pilot’s heart. But more importantly, we are also getting closer to finding out who will be the next Bachelorette.
Fans have not been really feeling Weber’s women due to the constant drama and pettiness that has plagued this season. So, will producers go back in the vault to pick a Bachelorette? There are plenty of old fan favorites to choose from, but the main one that keeps coming up is Demi Burnett.
Demi Burnett was in the running for Bachelorette last season
Viewers first met Burnett when she was competing for Colton Underwood’s affection on The Bachelor. She may not have won Underwood’s heart but she certainly wormed her way into America’s. She started out the season as a potential villain and ended it as a fan favorite.
Bachelor Nation loved her so much that production even considered making her the Bachelorette despite her labeling.
“I don’t think even a villain is even what a villain anymore,” Robert Mills, ABC’s Senior Vice President, Alternative Series, Specials & Late-Night Programming told Entertainment Tonight. “With Demi, we thought she was going to be a villain. She’s like a Corinne [Olympios] or she’s like a Tierra [LiCausi] or one of these other sort of classic villains, and then you thought, no, she’s not like that. She speaks her mind and she’s very open.”
She was actually the number two choice for last season if Hannah Brown turned the role down.
“I think Demi would be a really interesting season,” Mills said.
Demi has already made history
Though she didn’t get to be the Bachelorette last season, Burnett did go on Bachelor in Paradise. While there, she revealed to the world that she was bisexual and became the first person in the show’s history to date both a man and a woman onscreen.
She ended the season engaged to Kristian Haggerty but shortly after Paradise wrapped, the two called off their engagement.
Bachelor Nation wants Demi as the Bachelorette
Fans have already started the petition to get Burnett cast as the Bachelorette.
“I’m just going to put this out there in the universe: Queen @demi_burnett for Bachelorette?” one person tweeted.
“Demi for bachelorette!!!” a viewer said. “Now that would be interesting if there was a house of half men and half ladies.”
Some people just wanted to ensure that none of Weber’s women would become the Bachelorette.
“I’m still a week behind but like, none of these women are going to be the bachelorette right?” another fan wrote. “It’s gonna be @demi_burnett’s season right? Or maybe Hannah B part 2?”
Even former Bachelor Nick Viall wants Burnett to get the job.
“I think she’s funny and interesting and as open to love as anyone else. [I] just personally think she’d be fun to watch,” he told Us Weekly.
“I’m a big fan of Demi and if they were to cast her, it certainly could be an interesting element knowing that she is attracted to both men and women. That would be an interesting element to potentially incorporate. I would be a fan of that, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”
