Fans learned a lot about Matt James’ past throughout the season of The Bachelor. Now he’s hinting that he’s searching for a therapist after that uncomfortable After the Finale Rose special.

[Warning spoilers for the end of The Bachelor Season 25!]

Matt James made a shocking decision at the end of ‘The Bachelor’

The finale of season 25 came down to two women. Michelle Young and Rachael Kirkconnell got to meet his mother, Patty James, and brother, John. James seemed to be confident until he had a conversation with his family.

His mother believed it would be a “long shot” that he would be engaged by the end of the season. But after meeting Michelle she said she could see the teacher becoming part of their family.

His family then met Rachael and his mother said she’s cute. James said time flies with her and they have fun together. He felt like he was ready to get engaged when Rachael left, but that changed when he talked to his mom again.

“I mean I know they both love you, but feelings come and go, and to tell somebody you love them is big because that opens their hearts up,” Patty said. “Just speaking from experience there’s nothing like being in love.”

She then added, “It makes life wonderful but you know people fall in and out of love and love is not the end all be all.” John also told him to not feel like he has to make a decision if he isn’t ready. This seemed to deeply affect James. He said it made him think of his father not being ready for marriage.

James decided to send Michelle home early. He also skipped his last date with Rachael and decided not to propose, but continue their relationship at the final rose ceremony.

“Google Therapist Near Me,” he tweeted on March 16, the morning after the finale. He also shared this tweet in his Instagram Story.

The reality star has mostly kept his time on social media limited. Before this tweet, he shared a video of himself on a skateboard and captioned it with “Find your balance.” He also tweeted on the same day, “Thank you God for blessing me much more than I deserve.”

Each season of The Bachelor is an emotional rollercoaster. There is some help for stars and contestants to get through it. A therapist is on-call for the cast. Dr. Catherine Selden was the show’s psychologist from 2002 to 2017 and talked about doing this job with ABC

“It can be a somewhat emotionally taxing, people don’t realize how fast emotions get involved,” Dr. Selden said. “We want to make sure that people are going to be OK with coping with the stress involved, and make sure that they are going to be offered the help that they need if it’s the case.”

James revealed on After the Final Rose that he’s now single after ending his relationship with Rachael. It looks like he’s ready to move on from the show.
