‘The Bachelor’: Who Was the First Bachelor and What Is He up to Now?
If you’re a big fan of The Bachelor, you likely want to know as much as you can about the show. One question you might have is about the first season. Who was the first Bachelor and what is he doing now? Here’s what Showbiz Cheat Sheet knows.
Before ‘The Bachelor’
Before The Bachelor became must-see TV, there was Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?, which aired in February 2000. Unlike The Bachelor, the focus of the show wasn’t about finding true love, according to The Cut. “We just wanted to do big, noisy, controversial specials,” said The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss in an interview with The Cut.
Who was the first star of ‘The Bachelor’?
The Bachelor first aired in March 2002. Fleiss told The Cut it was hard to get people on board with the show at first because The Bachelor was new and potential contestants were unsure of what the experience would be like. Eventually, the producers found their man. The Cut reports television executive Andrea Wong helped Fleiss find the perfect person.
The first star of The Bachelor was Alex Michel, a Harvard a Stanford Business School graduate. Fleiss told the publication that Wong’s plan was to get a bachelor they could market as the “most eligible man in America.” This way, 25 women would be willing to date one man.
What is Alex Michel up to now?
Michel gave his final rose to contestant Amanda Marsh but he decided not to propose. Michel and Marsh dated for a few months and then broke up. According to Us Weekly, Michel is a media executive and it seems like he’s single.
Other than that bit of information, not much else is known about Michel. He appears to be living a quiet life far away from the spotlight. Back in 2013, The Bachelor host Chris Harrison told Katie Couric that Michel pretty much disappeared. “I know people have tried to get a hold of him, and we would have loved to have had him here today, but he’s kind of gone on to live his life,” said Harrison.
Harrison added that the producers and show executives are thankful for Michel and his contribution to the franchise. “We do owe him a debt of gratitude; he kicked this whole thing off. I don’t blame him [for avoiding the spotlight]; he’s paid his dues.”
‘The Bachelor’ Season 24
As you probably know by now, Peter Weber is the star of The Bachelor Season 24. A lot of people have mixed feelings about Weber because of some of the decisions he has made. For example, he gave a rose to a woman who didn’t even go on a group date (Alayah Benavidez). Some fans thought Weber’s decision was unfair and disrespectful to the rest of the women on the date. Another criticism is that Weber seems to get easily flustered and he seems overwhelmed by the process.
