The Bachelorette had a dramatic ending this season. That’s because frontrunner Greg Grippo dumped Katie Thurston after his hometown date. She decided to continue and got engaged to Blake Moynes. He has now revealed that Grippo’s last conversation with Thurston triggered him.

Grippo and Thurston’s relationship took a turn on his hometown date. He told her he loved her, and she told him she loves looking at him. Grippo started to shut down, and Thurston tried to reassure him that he needed to wait just a little longer for the whole process to end.

Grippo didn’t wait. He later talked to her in her room and explained that she felt like a stranger after he revealed his feelings for her. Grippo said he felt dismissed by her. Thurston apologized for this and said she hadn’t told anyone that she’s loved them. She wants to save that for the very end.

Grippo wasn’t happy about this and walked out. Thurston went after him crying. He claimed he deserved more and walked out on her. She was left crying on the ground.

The scenes between Grippo and Thurston really tore fans apart, choosing sides. But Thurston’s fiancé, Moynes, has yet to give his reaction to what happened until now.

He saw the scene before he went on stage for After the Final Rose. “I mean, listen the way I look at it is if that’s the love of your life, you just don’t talk to her like that. You just don’t. You fight harder, and he didn’t do that. There was talking down and things,” he told Variety.

Blake said he would have never approached it that way. “I grew up in a household where that was a constant for 17 years, and I saw what that can do to my mom, in that case,” he explained. “And so, it triggered me a little bit. It reminded me of a brutal past, to some degree…I hope that Katie knows that she’ll never have to hear that from me.”

Thurston also talked about revisiting that hard time with Grippo. “I had no idea how heavy this topic was going to be, regardless of whose side you’re on or what your perspective was, so now, given that it [had] been a week of listening and understanding, I think all I can do is support Greg and his journey for healing and whatever it is that he’s going through,” she said. “I did come down hard, and I did have a lot of anger. If I have the opportunity to talk to someone who hurt me, I’m going to.”
