‘The Bachelorette’: Clare Crawley Just Clapped Back at a Fan So Hard That They Apologized
The leads on The Bachelorette get criticized for a lot of things. Recently, Clare Crawley got vulnerable on the show and talked about missing her prom. A fan then tried to call Crawley out on social media and claimed that she made the whole prom story up. Crawley slammed the fan so expertly that the woman ended up apologizing.
Why didn’t Clare go to prom?
Crawley used this week to get closer to certain men. While speaking privately to Chasen Nick, she opened up about her high school experience and how she felt invisible there. She revealed that she didn’t go to prom because no one asked her to go.
Soon after the episode aired, one Instagram user shared a photo of her husband with Crawley in high school and wrote, “My husband took @clarecrawley to senior prom, @clarecrawley you went to prom.”
The picture has since been deleted.
Bachelor nation defended Clare
When the photo started circulating, fans were confused as to what to believe. But some members of Bachelor nation came out to defend Crawley.
“PromGate…A thread. 1) If you want to playfully snark about this pic of Clare at a high school dance…Cool, It’s a silly fun show that is silly and fun to discuss. 2) If you’re looking at this photo and making blanket assumptions about Clare’s character ….,” former Bachelor Nick Viall tweeted.
“Then you need to chill. 3) This could be a pic from any dance that’s not prom 4) maybe Clare had to ask this guy, because he was too scared to ask her 5) and maybe Clare technically lied and which case.. who cares 6) everyone reading this has lied about stupid sh*t,” he continued.
Nicole Lopez-Alvar from Bachelor in Paradise also threw in her opinion. Ultimately, she felt like this extreme scrutiny of an anecdote from Crawley’s past was unfair.
“Women on TV, whether it be an accomplished attorney running for VP, or a dating show contestant, will always be subjected to unfair judgement (even from women) due to the patriarchal society we continue to live in. I just started a podcast and I feel sick talking about Clare. Ugh,” she tweeted.
Clare’s response warrented an apology
Instead of ignoring the photo as some leads do when stories come out about them, Crawley responded to the accusations directly.
“Lol actually not,” she commented. “You do know there is more dances in high school that are NOT Prom? Turns out it’s just someone digging up old photos. (Why she keeps her husbands old dance pics I’m not sure) I went to a new school senior year and in fact DID NOT go to prom just like I said.”
After Crawley made her point and Bachelor nation came to her rescue, the user rescinded her statement.
“I would like to say I miss understood [sic],” she wrote on Instagram, according to Us Weekly. “Clare did not go to prom with my husband. It was another dance and I apologize for my error.”
The Bachelorette airs on Tuesdays on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
