‘The Bachelorette’: Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya Talk Baby Names
It’s been almost six months since The Bachelorette’s Michelle Young said yes to Nayte Olukoya’s proposal and made their relationship public. Since then, the pair has traveled back and forth to see each other, are looking to purchase their first home together, and preparing for their wedding.
Young and Olukoya get to know each other better as they date off-camera. And they’re finding plenty to talk about — including what they might name their future children.
Michelle Young and Nayte Olukoya are still planning where to buy a house together
When Young and Olukoya appeared on the “After the Final Rose” episode for her season, they revealed the 27-year-old sales executive would move from his home in Texas and join his fiancée in Minnesota. The Bachelorette producers gifted the couple a $200,000 check for their down payment.
Originally, the couple said the move would happen quickly. But Young and Olukoya have taken their time to scope out the housing market. Now, the pair is waiting to move forward until they know more about whether Young will return to the classroom in the fall or do something else. She was recently named the co-host of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast with Becca Kufrin. And it’s possible her fame from the show could also lead to other ventures outside of teaching.
Olukoya draws from family inspiration for his baby name list
On an episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour in May, Young and Kufrin were joined by their respective significant others (Kufrin recently proposed to long-time boyfriend Thomas Jacobs) to talk all things relationships — including names each couple is saving for their future babies.
Olukoya said he’s had a list of names in the back of his mind for a while. “Low-key, I’ve had a list of baby names since I was like 10 years old,” he began. At least one of his favorites draws influence from his Nigerian heritage, Bachelor Nation recapped.
“I don’t really have a lot of girl names. I know that’s kind of messed up,” he said. Olukoya continued, “I really like the name Ayodelé for a boy, though. My sister’s name is Ayowomi, so the male version of that is Ayodelé, and I’ve always loved that name.”
Olukoya also said the name John is the “definition of basic,” but he also loves that option. Though Young didn’t share many of her favorites, she vetoed John. “Sorry, Nayte, but I dated a Johnny, so nope!” she joked.
Olukoya also shared that his first name (Nayte is his middle name), Babatunde, is passed on to the firstborn son after the father’s father dies in Nigerian culture. So, for now, since his father is alive, that’s not on the table.
In the meantime, the couple is traveling and planning their wedding
The pair has plenty of time to iron out their baby name list. In the meantime, they are planning their wedding and traveling together. The fan-favorite duo hasn’t set a date publicly yet. But in the past, they’ve indicated they’re hoping for a summer wedding.
Until then, Young and Olukoya have taken a few vacations together. Young shared photos on her Instagram in April of the two on the Brooklyn Bridge, dubbed “Naychelle takes on New York.” Earlier that month, they both posted pictures from a luxurious resort in Mexico. “Let’s go back. Minnesota is kinda chilly,” Olukoya wrote, along with several photos of the pair relaxing in the sunshine.
