‘The Bachelorette’ Why Sean Lowe Originally Turned Down the Show
Now that Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette has been postponed, Bachelor Nation is keen on revisiting past seasons and contestants. One person who has always been highly-regarded in the Bachelor world is Sean Lowe. Lowe first became a fan-favorite on Season 8 of The Bachelorette. He also caught the attention of Emily Maynard and made it all the way to third place before he was sent home.
Lowe’s popularity eventually earned him the lead role for The Bachelor. In fact, Lowe is regarded as the most successful bachelor in the show’s history. To date, he is the only lead still married to the woman to whom he gave his final rose. Following his stint on The Bachelor, Lowe continued on to compete on six other reality TV shows including Dancing with the Stars, Who Want to Be A Millionaire, and Celebrity Wife Swap.

Fame and fortune aside, the best thing that has come out of Lowe’s time on the Bachelor franchise is his family. He and his wife, Catherine Lowe nee Guidici, have three children and seem quite happy together. But, Lowe’s happily ever after almost never happened. In fact, he originally turned down the offer of being a cast member on The Bachelorette.
In a recent Instagram post, Lowe reminisced about the unique way his family came together. While many of his fans are familiar with his love story, some were unaware that he never even applied to the show. When he was selected for The Bachelorette, the producers had to entice him with the promise of a free trip.
Lowe jokes about his wife and kids on Instagram
“So this girl calls me one day and says, ‘We’d like to talk to you about being on The Bachelorette.’ I politely declined because I would never take part in a stupid reality show like that. Before hanging up she said, ‘Think about it. At the very least it could be a free vacation.’ Long story short, it was the most expensive free vacation I ever took,” Lowe joked to his Instagram page, sharing the story with his 1.2 million Instagram followers.
Fans immediately found humor in Lowe’s post. However, others were left confused. They were unsure how the dad of three could be tapped for the show without ever having applied. “Wait what!? They called and asked you to go on the bachelorette? I thought you had to apply?” one fan questioned. Lowe responded by telling fans that he was, in fact, nominated for the show. “My sister sent in an application without telling me,” Lowe shared.

Fans immediately began to tell Lowe that he owed his sister a debt of gratitude. “Lol. I guess you are thanking her for the rest of your life. You have a beautiful family,” one Bachelor Nation fan wrote. “Geez but don’t you thank your lucky stars right now!! Look at those gorgeous babies, 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼” another co-signed. Lowe’s time on The Bachelorette, and subsequently The Bachelor, may have cost him money, but clearly the gains outweigh the losses.
