‘The Bachelorette’: Why Clare Crawley’s Ex-Fiancé Benoît Was Left Out of the Premiere
It’s no secret that Clare Crawley is coming into her role as the bachelorette as a Bachelor franchise veteran. But her intro package left out one of her bigger Bachelor milestones: getting engaged to Benoît Beauséjour-Savard. We saw bits and pieces of her time on Juan Pablo Galavis’ season, and on Bachelor in Paradise seasons 1 and 2. But we didn’t see any footage from Crawley’s season of The Bachelor Winter Games.
Clare Crawley and Benoît Beauséjour-Savard
Crawley and Beauséjour-Savard got together on The Bachelor Winter Games. They formed a connection right away. Then, during the World Tells All special in Feb. 2018, they got engaged.
However, in April, they announced that they’d decided to go their separate ways. In a joint statement, they wrote that they “think the world of each other” and had hoped they “could make this work.”
Today, they’re still on good terms. When it was announced that Crawley was going to be the bachelorette, her ex wrote on Instagram: “Congratulations to this gem!! She will be an amazing Bachelorette. She is smart, fun, strong, knows what she wants and most importantly, she will call out the guys messing around!! Hell yeah!! Good Luck on your journey to find love @clarecrawley !! You will be the best.”
Benoît Beauséjour-Savard thought he was going to be featured in Clare Crawley’s ‘Bachelorette’ premiere
As it turns out, Beauséjour-Savard was as surprised as much of Bachelor Nation to see he wasn’t included in Crawley’s intro package. He’d even written on Instagram, urging fans to “tune in on ABC to watch @clarecrawley journey,” adding, “P.S : You might see a familiar French Canadian in it.”
Once he realized his footage had been cut, Crawley’s ex shared photos of the former fiancés filming together having a good time.
“Well…. This is what you should have seen …just two exes having a fun chat,” he wrote on an Instagram Story with a photo dated March 10, 2020, that showed him and Crawley laughing at a restaurant. “That’s probably why they cut that.”
On a photo of the former couple making funny faces at the camera, Beauséjour-Savard wrote: “And a little too much baileys in our coffees @clarecrawley.”
ABC says they didn’t have time to include the Benoît and Clare footage
There’s no big reason Beauséjour-Savard and Crawley’s engagement wasn’t featured in the premiere. As the restaurant manager showed on Instagram, they’d shot footage to be included in the intro package. There just wasn’t enough time to show it.
Much of Bachelor Nation took to Twitter the night of the premiere to ask why the relationship was left out. ABC executive Rob Mills answered their question.
“We didn’t have time for the footage but fun fact: Clare and Benoit are the best of friends! #TheBachelorette,” he tweeted.
