‘The Batman’: Why Robert Pattinson Felt ‘Strange’ Playing the Caped Crusader
Robert Pattinson is expected to defy expectations as the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ upcoming DC film, The Batman. And in a recent interview, the actor revealed that as a fan, he felt ‘strange’ playing this iconic comic book character.
Robert Pattinson pestered Matt Reeves to be the new Batman
Pattinson, known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, is a big Batman fan. So when he learned that filmmaker Matt Reeves was tackling the character for a new DCEU movie, the actor reached out and campaigned to be considered for the role.
“I’d had Batman in my mind for a while,” Pattinson revealed in an interview with Variety. “It’s such an absurd thing to say. I sort of had an idea to do it, and I’d been prodding Matt. He didn’t accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.”
Pattinson was surprised to learn he’d landed the role. But he’s since been putting all he has into perfecting the iconic DC comic book character.
“You’re trying to think of the way to balance,” Pattinson said. “How to bring something new to it and not want to scare people off, and work in the confines of the costume.”
The actor can’t believe he’s Batman
Batman is one of the most popular comic book characters of all time. And Pattinson knows what a privilege it is to play him. As reported by Complex, when talking about The Batman, the actor admitted how surreal it felt to see himself as the Caped Crusader.
“I mean, it’s a strange feeling,” Pattinson said in a video of a red carpet event shared by the Associated Press. “I [had] moments when I was shooting when you just catch a glimpse of yourself in a reflection, and you’d be like, ‘Wait, am I actually doing this? This is crazy!’ But it’s been really fun and it’s really exciting so far.”
When talking about his Batman costume, Pattinson noted that it felt fantastic to wear but was also challenging to move around it at times. “It’s hard, I mean, it’s a combination of the suit does a lot of the work for you but then when you need to do some work you have to really fight it,” he suggested. “But yeah, it’s a very special feeling to put it on.”
What is ‘The Batman’ release date?
The Batman has been in the works for quite some time. And while they feasted on any nuggets of information they could get, fans have patiently been waiting for the film to drop.
The movie was originally scheduled for a June 2021 release. But pandemic-related issues ended up delaying production. Filming wrapped in March 2021. And as of now, The Batman has a new release date of March 4, 2022.
The Batman also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman Selina Kyle, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as The Penguin Oswald Cobblepot, and Paul Dano as The Riddler Edward Nashton.
