George Harrison’s Son Saw This Beatles Movie ‘Every Night for Like 3 Months’
George Harrison‘s son, Dhani Harrison, was introduced to some of The Beatles’ songs through one of the band’s movies. During an interview, George said Dhani wasn’t impressed by one of the songs from the movie. George also revealed what would happen after Dahni and his friends watched and rewatched the film.
George Harrison said his son watched The Beatles’ movie ‘Yellow Submarine’ every night for months
According to the book George Harrison on George Harrison: Interviews and Encounters, the quiet Beatle discussed Dhani’s relationship to The Beatles’ songs. “I’ve never consciously sat him down and said, ‘Listen, here’s the old Beatle records,’ but he’s picked up on them because when he was about four or five, Yellow Submarine — there’s an age group that like Yellow Submarine,” George said. “The kids watch, and they watch it every night for like three months, and then they forget about it.”
George explained how Dhani came across The Beatles’ song “Hey Bulldog,” which appears in some cuts of Yellow Submarine. “He’s become aware now in the last few years …. And I didn’t really tell him anything about the Beatles because it was so long ago, anyway,” he said. “I didn’t want to burden him with all that.
“But nevertheless, I think most kids when they get to about four or five, they see Yellow Submarine, and then he sort of twigged, and then he came up to me one day and said, ‘Hey dad, how do you play the piano lick from ‘Hey Bulldog?'” George added. “I thought, That’s strange, how does he know a song like that?” But it’s in Yellow Submarine.” George added that his son wasn’t impressed with “Hey Bulldog.”

“Hey Bulldog” was not a single, so it did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100. It appeared on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack. The Yellow Submarine soundtrack became a massive hit. The album lasted on the Billboard 200 for 25 weeks, peaking at No. 2.
According to The Official Charts Company, “Hey Bulldog” did not chart in the United Kingdom either. Despite this, Yellow Submarine hit No. 3 in the U.K., staying on the chart for 10 weeks.
The impact the movie ‘Yellow Submarine’ had on pop culture
The film Yellow Submarine had an impact on pop culture beyond inspiring a hit soundtrack. For example, Kesha mimicked the animation style of the film in the music video for her song “Your Love Is My Drug.” David Bowie‘s character from SpongeBob’s Atlantis SquarePantis, Lord Royal Highness, is clearly based on the Blue Meanies in Yellow Submarine. Some of the circus performers in the Fab Four jukebox musical Across the Universe are also clearly based on the Blue Meanies. Dhani wasn’t impressed with “Hey Bulldog” but that didn’t stop Yellow Submarine from having an impact.
