Johnny Galecki has played Leonard Hofstadter on The Big Bang Theory for 12 seasons on CBS. The actor has found massive success playing the quirky experimental physicist, becoming one of the highest paid actors on television.
On the show, Leonard married his longtime love, Penny, during season nine’s season premiere. The two had their ups and downs during the show’s run, but it looks like they will get the happy ending fans had always hoped for. But what about Galecki? Is the 44-year-old actor married?
‘The Big Bang Theory’ wraps up this month
It’s hard to believe, but the end is almost here for our favorite bunch of scientists. Galecki and the rest of the cast will take their final bow next week. CBS announced last year that the hit comedy would not return for season 13. According to reports, the cast was called into the office of executive producer Chuck Lorre where show star Jim Parsons revealed that season 12 would be his final season. Lorre followed up, telling the cast that the show would wrap at the end of season 12.
The news was a shock to the cast and fans of the show. Parsons told Entertainment Weekly that he just felt that the time had come for the show to end, admitting: “It felt like we have been able to do this for so many years now, it doesn’t feel like there is anything left on the table. Not that we couldn’t keep doing it, but it feels like we’ve chewed all the meat off this bone.”
What will Johnny Galecki do after ‘The Big Bang Theory’?
For many, it seems natural for the Belgium born actor to spend more time on the ABC hit, The Connors now that The Big Bang Theory is ending. Galecki originally played David Healy on Roseanne from 1992 to 1997. He reprised his character in 2018 for one episode of Roseanne before doing two more episodes on The Conners.
But the actor isn’t sure he was to jump right into another sitcom. Galecki says that he loves playing the character, but would like to appear on the show only as a recurring character. The actor said: “I think I need a little bit of space from being a series regular again.” He continued: “I certainly hope to visit as much as possible. “That’s kind of my second home… I still have a bit of a high school crush on that character.”
Johnny Galecki is having a baby
Perhaps another reason Galecki may take a break from show business has something to do with his personal life. The actor just revealed that he is expecting a baby with his 21-year-old girlfriend Alaina Meyer. While it looks like Leonard had to give up on his dreams of having a baby with Penny, Galecki will become a dad for the first time later this year or early next year — the due date has not yet been revealed.
The couple has been dating since last year. Though they officially revealed their relationship in September, the pair were first spotted together in July.
Galecki made the announcement on Instagram, writing: “We are absolutely over the moon to announce that we will soon be welcoming a little one into this crazy and wonderful world.” Meyer shared the sentiment, writing in her own post: “So happy to announce that we are having a baby! There couldn’t be a better blessing in the world for us and we are over the moon happy.”

Galecki and Meyer were spotted wearing matching rings late last year. This led fans to question whether the couple had secretly tied the knot. But Meyer told fans that there was no wedding, posting “#notmarried” on an Instagram picture of her and Galecki. Will there be a wedding in the future? We’ll have to wait and see. As of now, the couple has not revealed any future wedding plans.
