‘The Blacklist’ Season 10 Is Official — Here’s What James Spader Said
The Blacklist has a dedicated following and many fans are rejoicing to learn that the show has been officially renewed for season 10. The NBC series went through a lot of changes following the season 8 finale. Protagonist Liz Keen was killed off, and creator Jon Bokenkamp exited the show. Yet James Spader, the task force, and the captivating criminals they hunt down every week are getting another run. Spader made the announcement, and many fans couldn’t be more delighted.
‘The Blacklist’ went through some big changes after season 8
For eight seasons, Megan Boone played Liz Keen. Liz is an FBI profiler who is shocked when the FBI’s most wanted criminal turns himself in to help the police catch criminals. His only request is that he will only speak with Liz.
For years the series centered on the mystery of Red’s identity, and why Liz means so much to him. Then things took a dramatic shift in the season 8 finale. Liz was shot and killed, and The Blacklist still hasn’t stated out loud Red’s true identity.
Boone’s departure from the show was preplanned and the actor left to pursue other endeavors. The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp also exited the show following season 8. These massive changes have left fans wondering if The Blacklist could continue to season 10.
James Spader announced NBC has renewed ‘The Blacklist’ for season 10
The Blacklist fans can rejoice because the show has been officially renewed for season 10. Spader made the announcement on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The fans’ reaction was uproarious.
“We just got picked up — just this afternoon. Word came out. Everyone was hustling around to try and do it so we could announce it on the show. We just got picked up for a 10th season,” Spader announced to cheers and applause.
The Blacklist has truly stood the test of time. Not only has the show remained on the air for 10 seasons, but the cast and crew got creative to finish season 7 when production halted because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“We were in the middle of episode 19 of that season and it became clear that we weren’t coming back for the last few episodes of the season,” Spader said on the show. “So we decided with 19 we wanted to end with some sort of satisfaction for the viewer. So they animated the second half of that episode 19.”
Spader went on to explain how the cast discussed with NBC and Sony how they could come back to safely film the next season. “We shot all 22 episodes. We didn’t shut down once all during the pandemic. It was all really due to this incredible effort from our producers,” the actor continued.
