‘The Blacklist’ Season 9: This Star’s Cryptic Teaser Suggests We’re in for a Wild Ride
Article Highlights:
- The Blacklist Season 9 will feature a two-year time jump.
- Deirdre Lovejoy posted a Blacklist teaser on Instagram.
- Why Lovejoy’s character will likely play an important role in season 9.
The Blacklist Season 9 returns to NBC in just under a month, and new details emerge every day. TVLine just confirmed a two-year time jump for Raymond Reddington (James Spader) and crew. The story continues in the wake of Elizabeth Keen’s (Megan Boone) murder.
“Finding themselves each at a crossroads, a common purpose compels them to renew their original mission: to take down dangerous, vicious and eccentric Blacklisters,” the Season 9 synopsis reads. “In the process, they begin to uncover lethal adversaries, unimaginable conspiracies, and surprising betrayals that will threaten alliances and spur vengeance for the past, led by the most devious criminal of them all — Raymond Reddington.”
While we don’t have all the answers about what’s to come, there’s one star who’s back to work, teasing fans.
‘The Blacklist’ Season 9 will see the return of this star
Though nothing is listed on her IMDb page yet, Deirdre Lovejoy will reprise her role as Cynthia Panabaker in season 9. Lovejoy took to social media to show fans she’s back at work with a glimpse of the call sheet.
“All signs pointing to season nine!! (but which way to the set?) [thinking face emoji]#Blacklist9 #Blacklist @nbcblacklist,” the Instagram caption says.
“All roads lead the TBL. I can’t wait to see you back in season 9!” one fan commented.
“So glad you’re back!” another said.
“Filming on the weekends??” an astute fan asked.
Lovejoy made her first appearance in season 3 while transporting Liz after going on the lamb in season 2.
Why we think Cynthia Panabaker will play an important role
Having Lovejoy back on the set is a big clue about what’s to come. Now that we know there’s a two-year time jump, the task force squad has likely been disbanded just like Panabaker ordered. She also previously issued a burn notice on Liz.
“As soon as Keen’s handled, the DOJ will disavow all knowledge of the Task Force, kick Reddington free,” she told them in season 8.
If they’ve all moved on as if the task force team never existed, Panabaker’s return could mean a couple of things. Either she needs the team to get back together for a specific reason, or she’s a mole and has more effective, more nefarious plans.
We don’t know what season 9 will bring, but the return of Lovejoy for season 9 is enormous, and we’re here for it.
The Blacklist Season 9 premieres Thursday, Oct. 21 on NBC.
