For seven years, NBC’s The Blacklist has proven to be one of the twistiest crime dramas around. The James Spader-led show is finally headed into season 8. In March, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic impacted the previous season’s finale. That said, Netflix has the first six seasons available to stream. Here’s what we know about when to expect the platform to snag season 7 of The Blacklist.

In February 2020, Jon Bokenkamp‘s creation — The Blacklist — was renewed for season 8. The news came just before the entertainment industry came to a screeching halt due to COVID-19.

This resulted in the rushed season 7 finale consisting of half-live-action and half-animation which some fans loved and others protested. Regardless, it allowed the writers to set up season 8, at least in some ways.

Things are slated to get back up and running soon. According to Spader’s co-star, Megan Boone, the new schedule will align with health and safety regulations. The show films in New York City, which was once the epicenter of the virus. It has since been given the governor’s OK to resume production.

“We are taking COVID very seriously,” she said on Instagram, adding that season 8 will be live-action, not animated.

Things left off in season 7 with Boone’s character, FBI Agent Elizabeth Keen making the decision to side with her [assumed] mother, Katarina Rostova (Laila Robins). The two will likely team up against Raymond Reddington (Spader) to stop the Townsend Directive from taking Katarina down.

All the while, Red’s mysterious illness should be explored, answering whether Liz will inherit his criminal empire upon his death. As for cast additions, fans can expect newcomer Laura Sohn to continue playing Agent Alina Park. She was promoted to series regular.

The Blacklist will return for season 8 on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

When will season 7 of ‘The Blacklist’ air on Netflix?

While eagerly awaiting the new season — will also stream on NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock — many have taken quarantine time to either re-watch The Blacklist or get into it from the beginning through Netflix.

Right now, the platform has six seasons of the series available with the seventh likely following typical Netflix scheduling patterns. They don’t announce arrival dates.

With the season 6 finale landing in May 2019, then to Netflix in September 2019 (and a similar pattern the year before), we can assume The Blacklist Season 7 will be ready to watch on Netflix sometime this month.

With the arrival and departure of popular shows within the service — like Friends — some fans might worry The Blacklist could be on the list of shows to go elsewhere, especially with NBC’s Peacock serving as competition.

Deals are made all of the time, but Sony Television made this particular deal with Netflix — not NBC where The Blacklist airs. The money involved is around $2 million per episode meaning Netflix will want to keep The Blacklist around as long as possible.
