‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Fans Were Loving the Reruns — Until Brooke Came Along
One of the most popular and longest-running daytime television shows is the dramatic soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
The program is still running new shocking episodes, 33 seasons since its 1987 premier. Those new episodes have been momentarily delayed, due to production shutdown as a result of COVID-19 precautions. The shooting shutdown has resulted in the decision to replay classic episodes, with a special them each week.
True The Bold and the Beautiful fans have enjoyed the throwback theme weeks, but the show’s most polarizing character Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang), has brought out a number of fan feelings about the character and her twisted history.
Who is Brooke Logan?
One of the pillars of the long-running soap opera, Logan has been a major character in The Bold and the Beautiful since the show’s beginning.
Logan is the only non-Forrester character that has been on the show since the very first episode. The show’s complicated anti-heroine has been through the wringer of love with two marriages to Eric Forrester (John McCook), and eight times Eric’s son and her self-professed true love Ridge Forrester (Ronn Moss/Thorsten Kaye).
That’s right, Logan has married two Forrester men, and did so more than once.
She has also been engaged in marriages with a great number of various other characters in the show. These marriages have resulted in many mixed feelings among fans, some of whom feel that Logan is manipulative. The marriages have also resulted in a number of children for Logan, many of which are now featured on the show today.
Logan is also embroiled in two long-standing feuds, with Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) and her arch-nemesis Dr. Taylor Hayes (Hunter Tylo). These deeply-rooted rivalries and the fan feelings that result from them have been rehashed by the throwback episodes.
Logan is such an important character in the show, she received her own theme week, which resulted in many fan opinions.
‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ theme weeks
Due to the stoppage of entertainment productions because of COVID-19, many daily shows have had to make creative programming decisions. The showrunners for The Bold and the Beautiful decided that they would replay classic episodes of the show. Each week has a special theme, which includes fan-favorite weddings, Escape to Monte Carlo week, and week featuring special making-of episodes featuring never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage.
Since these episodes have spanned the entire span of the show, Logan has been featured many times. These weeks have been a hit with nostalgic viewers, but it also has given fans a reason to bring up grievances against Logan, both new and old.
Fan’s mixed reaction to Logan
Logan is one of the most controversial characters in the show, which is in large part to her various love interests and love triangles.
Her long-lasting clash with Dr. Taylor Hayes revolved around their mutual desire for a man, Ridge Forrester. Being Team Bridge (Brooke and Ridge) or Team Tridge (Taylor and Ridge) has become one of the defining signs of fandom in the show.
Devoted fans of the show are forced to take sides in these dramatic soap opera relationships, and many have chosen to support Tridge. In the show, Logan has won the heart of her desired man as the two are currently married.
Many fans disagree with this pairing, and still long for Ridge to choose Taylor. Logan has also been labeled by some fans as an evil and manipulative person. Other fans strongly disagree, saying that Logan is a good example of a strong woman, and one that stands up against patriarchal men.
Logan has had a number of complicated relationships, many of which are not good for her. Every major soap opera character has a complicated past that involves unbelievable twists and turns, but this is especially true for Logan.
It will be interesting to see if Logan, and other characters, will have any changes once new episodes are once again released.
