‘The Bold and the Beautiful’: Jacob Young Says a Return Isn’t Likely
Rick Forrester (Jacob Young) is a legacy character on The Bold and the Beautiful. As the son of Eric Forrester (John McCook) and Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang), he’s been the focus of many storylines. Rick’s last appearance came in 2018, yet fans wonder if he’ll ever return to the show. If the soap opera brings back the character, they’ll have to find another actor to play the role.
‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ star Jacob Young explains why he won’t return
Young made his The Bold and the Beautiful debut in December 1997 as teenage Rick. The actor would stay with the show for nearly two years before leaving in September 1999. Young would then star on General Hospital and All My Children.
However, in 2011, he returned to the role that made him famous. Young’s second return with The Bold and the Beautiful would last six years and earn him two Daytime Emmy nominations. But by 2018, the actor was out the door once again.
Young is always asked about a possible comeback to the CBS soap opera. In a recent interview with Soaps In Depth, the actor says a return isn’t in the cards. The actor explained that writing is a massive reason for staying away.
“The hyper-focus on a couple of storylines at a time, and that just doesn’t work for me. I wanted consistency. It doesn’t have to be five, eight episodes a week, but just consistent. You write somebody off the canvas for a month, and then they show up one day a month. It’s not good for the character, and it’s not good for the audience, in my opinion.”
Rick Forrester’s storylines
During his years playing Rick, Young was part of many huge storylines. After making his debut, Young showed off his acting skills when his character got his babysitter Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz) pregnant. Rick facing the prospect of being a teen dad and his relationship with Amber, earned Young his first Daytime Emmy nomination. However, at the height of the storyline’s success, Young left The Bold and the Beautiful.
When Young returned in 2011, his character was reunited with Amber, who schemed to win back Rick. However, her hope of reconciliation was dashed when Rick learned she gave his sister Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) pills. Rick would then marry Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey) but divorced her after kissing Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye).
Rick’s next popular romance came with Maya Avant (Karla Mosley). In 2015, their storyline took a groundbreaking turn when Maya revealed she was transgender. Maya’s fears of losing Rick diminished when he proposed to her. Rick and Maya marry, and with her sister Nicole Avant (Reign Edwards) being a surrogate, the couple becomes parents to daughter Lizzie.
However, Rick and Maya are slowly pushed to the back burner, and by 2018, Young was off the show. Rick’s absence is explained as him moving to Paris for work. Later Maya reveals that she and Rick have divorced.
Jacob Young’s been vocal about his criticism toward the show
While Young says he enjoyed his time on the show and his co-stars, the actor doesn’t hold any punches regarding how the soap opera is run. The actor was upset with the show’s decision to end Rick and Maya’s romance. Young felt there was so much more to explore with the couple despite the producer’s claims the couple had run its course.
Fans may not see Young on The Bold and the Beautiful anytime soon, but they can see the actor in other projects. Currently, Young is starring as Deaver on The Walking Dead. Aside from acting, Young also hosts his podcast called Real Conversations with Jacob Young.
