‘The Bold and the Beautiful’: Newcomer Tanner Novlan Is Probably Recognizable from a Notable Commercial
Tanner Novlan may be one of The Bold and the Beautiful‘s newcomers, but he isn’t new to the small-screen. If you are an avid watcher of live television, you’ve probably seen him in a commercial from an insurance company. The commercial resulted in him getting a lot of attention ahead of him joining the soap opera. So if his face or voice seems familiar, don’t worry, you aren’t imagining things ― you definitely recognize him.

When the show began to resume production amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, The Bold and the Beautiful‘s head writer Brad Bell revealed that new characters would be added to the show for its pending return.
“We definitely have a stockpile of scripts to draw from now,” he said in June. “We have a few new characters coming aboard. You know, having all this time to name a character…you come up with 100 different names. And then you think, ‘Maybe this one is better’ or ‘maybe we can tie it into this family.’ It’s really a great luxury more than anything else.”
Soon after, it was revealed that at least two new characters would be coming on the show. Novlan’s character, Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan, is one of them. The character is a doctor and a love interest for Steffy Forrester. The second new character isn’t a new one per se, but a recast for a legacy character instead. Delon de Metz is taking over the role of Zende Forrester, once portrayed by Rome Flynn.

He spoke about being in the commercial in an interview with Soap Opera Digest. Novlan said that he has gotten noticed a lot for the commercial, which airs quite a bit.
“It’s been wild,” he said. “That commercial has been so well-received. I audi- tioned for it along with thousands of people, and I got it. And I was like, ‘Oh, cool. This will be interesting.’ When we were on set, writers would just keep pitching ideas, and the character just came to life and everybody loved that commercial. It’s been really fun to see how much people have loved it.”
On his character, Novlan thinks that from the jump, Finn is already a great suitor for Steffy. “Dr. Finn is an outsider, and I think that’s great for Steffy,” he said. “I think ‘Team Steffy’ is going to be excited for her to have a new man with a new set of values, and a new version of what passion and love can bring. I think she’s ready for a new man. Dr. Finn is clinical and professional at the start, but how can you not fall for someone like Steffy?”
