‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Star Tanner Novlan Had to Keep a Huge Secret From His Mother, Who Loves the Show
Tanner Novlan, the new kid on the block at The Bold and the Beautiful, had a special connection to the show even before he was cast. His mother is a very huge fan of the show. Novlan said in an interview recently that he couldn’t disclose his casting to her, even when he started taping episodes.

Novlan is one of two new or returning characters that were introduced when the show came back from a production break due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Novlan’s character, Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan, is one of the two newcomers. His character is a doctor and a love interest for Steffy Forrester. The second new character wasn’t exactly a new one, but a recast for a legacy character instead. Delon de Metz took over the role Zende Forrester, who portrayed by Rome Flynn last.
From the jump, Novlan said that his character would be a great suitor for Steffy. “Dr. Finn is an outsider, and I think that’s great for Steffy,” he said to Soap Opera Digest. “I think ‘Team Steffy’ is going to be excited for her to have a new man with a new set of values, and a new version of what passion and love can bring. I think she’s ready for a new man. Dr. Finn is clinical and professional at the start, but how can you not fall for someone like Steffy?”
Novlan couldn’t tell his mom when he first began filming
In an interview with Soaps in Depth, Novlan talked about how he had to not tell his mother about his casting when he first began to tape episodes. He couldn’t tell anyone at the time because he still had to keep it a secret. “My mom is a huge B&B fan,” he told the publication. “So when I found out I got the job way back in March, she was one of the ones I wanted to tell right away but it was still under wraps and I couldn’t say anything. So I had to keep a secret from everybody until we went back in July.”
His mom is such a huge fan, their dog is named after a character on the soap opera. He explained, “She is such a fan that our family dog’s name was Thorne. After Thorne Forrester. And she spelled it even with the ‘e’ at the end! So B&B has been playing in our house ever since I was a kid so each one of the storylines has always been a part of my life.”
Because his mother is such a superfan of The Bold and the Beautiful, the actor was very familiar on the characters, actors, rivalries, and shenanigans on the show. . “I’m up to speed,” he said. Which is kind of ironic, because my character, Dr. Finn, is an outsider. He’s not part of the family yet or anything, so he’s getting up to speed.”
