A look at John McCook’s early career

John McCook is a Ventura, Californa boy at heart. He was discovered by “legendary movie mogul Jack Warner while appearing as Tony in the New York City Center revival of West Side Story,” according to his CBS bio.
The bio also says the actor is one of the very last “formed by the Hollywood studio system and talent development program.” Universal Studios signed McCook on a contract. However, his career was temporarily put on hold when drafted via the U.S. Army, where he served for two years.
Before that, the actor attended Long Beach State University where he landed a part in the theater production, Tea and Sympathy. McCook worked at Disneyland to earn a living while pursuing his acting career. He appeared in productions such as Guys and Dolls, Firefly, and Flower Drum Song.
In 1964, McCook landed his first credited role as Airman Jim Kinney for the TV series, No Time for Sergeants. He appeared twice before picking up dozens of other roles throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ fame
The Hollywood veteran has appeared in everything from Dynasty to Three’s Company. His daytime debut was on The Young and the Restless in 1976. McCook played Lance Prentiss, who co-owned of Prentiss Industries. This was long before he became CEO of Forrester Creations on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Since leaving Lance behind, the B&B star has successfully played the same Forrester role for more than 30 years. He’s even crossed back over to Y&R as Eric when needed.
McCook’s storyline over the years includes a longtime marriage to the now-deceased Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery), multiple children from multiple women (including Brooke), and, for over 40 years, he hid Stephanie’s trust document that revealed she was the sole owner of Forrester Creations.
Eric is now married to Quinn (Rena Sofer). As of 2013, McCook and co-star, Katherine Kelly Lang (who plays Brooke Logan-Forrester) are the only remaining original cast members on The Bold and the Beautiful.
