In season 5, Jamie is bitten by a snake and just barely gets to Claire in time. She uses maggots on the wound, which had to be a gross situation for the actors. But to hear Caitriona Balfe tell it, it “was quite fun.”
“I mean, there was a lot of fun things seeing how scared Sam was of the maggots,” Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser said. “That was quite fun. It was also fun kind of shoving them in his face.”
Sam Heughan enjoyed having Duncan Lacroix back on set
Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, was next up and he talked about working with Duncan Lacroix again in the season finale. Lacroix’s character, Murtagh, is shot and killed in episode 7, which was hard for fans to deal with.
“For us, you know, losing Duncan Lacroix, who’s been a very strong member of our family and cast for a long time, that was hard,” Heughan said. “But what was great was that even though he died in episode 7, we still needed him for flashbacks actually so it was great at the very end of the whole season to sort of celebrate his story and the work that we’ve done with him.”
Sophie Skelton’s character had a new horse this season
Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna, talks about her new horse this season and how that all played out when he seemed to have his mind made up about things.
“Brianna gets a new horse this season,” Skelton said. “He’s amazing, he’s called Chocolate, but he doesn’t like people, and he doesn’t like smoke machines, and he doesn’t like going downhill. So probably one of my most memorable scenes this season is trying to canter that horse downhill because he was not having any of it. Did a lot of takes.”
Richard Rankin enjoyed filming the wedding
Richard Rankin, who plays Roger, recalls the wedding being a really memorable time to shoot. He says it felt just like they were at a real wedding, which must have been lovely for the actors to take part in and just relax together.
“One of the best days actually was filming the wedding,” Rankin recounts. “We filmed so much, but I think we generally had a really great time filming it. It was a lot of fun. A lot of times we couldn’t you know, keep a straight face. It felt like we were at a wedding which was great. And it was good hanging out with the bulk of our cast as well. It was a lot of fun.”
There were so many great moments in season 5 of Outlander. These are just a few of the main cast’s favorite memories.
