MTV’s The Challenge is slated to return after Double Agents — and it looks like an All Stars season is in the works. The show’s taken well-known names from shows like Road Rules, The Real World, Are You the One?, and Survivor (just to name a few) over the years. Now, we’re all wondering which “all-star” players will make it into the cast.

Is MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ coming back? Yes — and with an ‘All Stars’ season

MTV’s The Challenge first premiered all the way back in 1998 — and it’s still kicking in 2021. Double Agents, season 36 of the show, features castmembers both new and old. And now, it looks like fans can get ready for an all-stars season.

According to Us Weekly, Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios are teaming up to make this epic season. The season will reportedly feature 22 contestants fans know and love, and competitors from Road Rules and The Real World will be making a major comeback.

“All have history, but when relationships are the key to survival, will these legends be able to form new bonds or will their past lead to their demise?” the logline of the season reportedly says.

It seems fans have Mark Long to thank. Long, who hasn’t competed on The Challenge since 2012, first pitched the idea of an all-star season in June 2020 via Twitter. By August 2020, Long was able to confirm that producers were on board.

“I want to take it back to where it was fun. It was light-hearted but still competitive,” Long told Us Weekly. “Is there some drama? I’m sure there will be but what I think will be super special about something like this is being able to almost capture the ‘where are they now?’ type of feel like when they introduce characters on the first episode.”

Who will be cast in ‘The Challenge: All Stars’?

So, who will be cast for The Challenge: All Stars? The teaser trailer gives some clues as to who may be a part of the project. “Mark” is the first name written on the helmet in the trailer, which likely indicates Long. His last season was Battle of the Exes in 2012.

The next name on the spinning helmet is “Trishelle.” Trishelle Cannatella appeared on Rivals II in 2011.

The following name is “Beth,” for Beth Stolarczyk, who hasn’t been on The Challenge since 2008.

Syrus Yarbrough is the next name on the helmet. Yarbrough’s last season was The Ruins in 2009.

Ruthie Alcaide appearson the helmet next. She last appeared on The Duel in 2009.

Finally, Eric “Big Easy” Banks will come back. He was on Battle of the Seasons in 2012 but hasn’t returned since.

An All Stars season should include Challenge players who’ve won numerous times, though we’re not sure who else will return to the show just yet. So, who has won The Challenge the most? That title belongs to Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, as he’s won seven seasons.

“I’ve said this in the past, and I maintain to this day: It’s not the strongest that wins. And it’s not the smartest that wins. It’s those who have the ability to adapt,” Devenanzio said on Instagram after winning Total Madness. “And I think above all, above all the things that I’ve managed to do and I’ve been good at over the years, my ability to adapt, I think, has been spot-on.”

So, will Devenanzio be back? He’s given conflicting information regarding his standing with future seasons, but we’re willing to bet he’ll want to return with the greats if provided the opportunity. We’ll have to wait and see.
