‘The Challenge’: Why Ashley Mitchell Considers Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio the ‘G.O.A.T’
Ashley Mitchell, who has won the most money on The Challenge and Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, who has won the most seasons, went head to head in Total Madness. Regardless of their disagreements, Ashley has given the veteran props for his gameplay. After Episode 14, she declared him the “G.O.A.T.” or greatest of all time.
Ashley Mitchell and Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio history
The Real World: Ex-Plosion star made her debut on Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio’s 13th season, Rival III, in which she went out on the 10th episode, and he went on to get his sixth win.
They both returned for Invasion of the Champions, where he was eliminated in the 9th episode, and she went on to earn her first win. The two came back for the following season, Dirty 30, where they both missed the finals.
The California-native went on to win Final Reckoning while Johnny was eliminated relatively early. They then returned for War of the Worlds, where the two missed the finals again.
In War of the Worlds 2, Ashley teamed up with Cara Maria Sorbello and Paulie Calafiore’s alliance, and they promptly sent Johnny home. Even though the two-time champ made it to the finals, they lost to Team UK, leaving empty-handed.
Ashley and Johnny returned for the current season, Total Madness, and Ashley targeted Johnny at the second guy’s elimination. She almost pulled it off, but his many allies protected him.
The six-time winner then rallied the troops to throw Ashley in the following week.
Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio reportedly orchestrated Aneesa Ferreira blindside
In Episode 14, the contestants competed in what they believe to be the final challenge before the highly anticipated finals. Before the challenge, Josh Martinez explained he didn’t want to be paired up with Aneesa Ferreira for any part of the final, so he considered throwing her into elimination.
Jenny West shared the same sentiments, and they threw the 12-time competitor into Purgatory against rookie Bayleigh Dayton. According to insiders, Johnny is the one who wanted Aneesa out and convinced Jenny and Josh to throw her in.
Additionally, Cory Wharton reportedly knew of the plan, which is why he got so upset with Fessy Shafaat for not choosing him for the Tribunal as promised. Aneesa seemingly confirmed the theory by thanking Cory for having her back after the episode aired.
Why Ashley Mitchell considers Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio the ‘G.O.A.T.’
Right after Jenny and Josh selected Aneesa to go into Purgatory, Ashley tweeted, “Johnny made that decision. Not the Tribunal. I said what I said.” She clarified in another tweet and explained the six-time champ “manipulates people so well they think it’s gonna better their game.”
The California-native then brought up the elimination round between Cara Maria Sorbello and Marie Roda against Shane Landrum and Nelson Thomas. According to the two-time winner, Johnny “convinced” the ladies to go against the guys.
She believes the veteran has been doing the same thing to everyone this season, which is why he keeps getting his way and considers him the “G.O.A.T.” or greatest of all time.
Ashley followed up defending the production team, writing, “production does not cheat, help, or reveal secrets.” Instead, contestants “get lucky with the cast, the energy, and the games,” depending on the season. The Challenge 35: Total Madness airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
