Fans of reality TV have been watching The Challenge for over two decades, and it’s hard to believe that some competitors who started the show in their teens and early 20s are still competing today. One of the most notable (and controversial) players is certainly Cara Maria Sorbello. While she started as a mild-mannered and awkward player in Fresh Meat II, she’s grown into her own over the years and proves to be a Challenge beast with each new season.

Not only is Sorbello getting attention for her strategies and impressive physical gameplay, but her relationship with competitor Paulie Calafiore is also under careful watch. The couple appears to be the perfect match, but her followers wonder if they’re still together.

Thankfully for Calafiore and Sorbello fans, it seems they may be on good terms and possibly still together, as Sorbello commented on his Instagram post on Jan. 10. Here’s what happened.

Sorbello and Calafiore have had a difficult relationship since they first met during The Challenge: Final Reckoning in 2018. The two hit it off and appeared to start a relationship at the end of the season, but it seemed Calafiore was in a relationship with a woman by the name of Danielle Maltby at the time. Maltby took to the media to share her heartache — and it put Calafiore’s relationship with Sorbello on hold, too.

“I want to vomit because it makes me so sick to think that someone can sit there and spout out these professions of love to me and then hang up the phone and go and f*** someone else. I don’t blame Cara in this.” Maltby said, according to Us Weekly.

As for Calafiore, he admitted his faults and owned up to falling in love with Sorbello. The two maintained a relationship (even after faking a breakup in October 2019), and they posted photos of each other to Instagram often. But Sorbello hasn’t posted any photos of her with Calafiore since November 2019, and it’s making fans wonder if something’s up.

As stated before, Sorbello and Calafiore faked a breakup in the past. And they did this to prove that fans can’t speculate on what’s going on based on what they see online. Even so, there’s been an unusual absence in couples’ photos for both of them. And Sorbello released a few comments on Instagram that also made her fans wonder what’s really going on behind the scenes.

“Please tell me you and Paulie are still together,” a fan commented on Sorbello’s Instagram post of her promoting products from Teami. “I’m a hopeless romantic and am serious rooting for you two!!!! Love to see your smile shining bright!”

Instead of reassuring her followers that she and Calafiore were still together, Sorbello answered, “im a hopeless romantic too.”

Not only that, but when another fan asked about their relationship status on another Instagram post, Sorbello ambiguously answered, “We are public figures. Of course people wanna know. We used to put a lot of sweet cute things out there. I miss that too. Its ok. All love girl.”

Sorbello and Calafiore still haven’t been straight-up with their followers regarding where they stand. But it seems there’s hope for those who are praying they’re still together.

Calafiore posted a photo of himself to Instagram on Jan. 9 with the caption, “How do you bounce back after failure? You NEVER. F***ING. QUIT.” Those who watched The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 may be thinking Calafiore’s channeling his disappointing loss with this post. And Sorbello offered her own light-hearted thoughts.

“Fair. But first i eat a whole pizza,” she commented.

To that, Calafiore answered, “well obviously.”

The funny exchange could be a good sign that the couple is in fact, just fine. While they haven’t posted photos of each other in months (and Sorbello’s recent posts have been more abstract than usual), they may just be taking their relationship out of the media spotlight. We’re sure we’ll learn more about what they’re up to, if they’re together, and if Calafiore is planning a serious Challenge comeback for next season soon.
