‘The Challenge’: Cara Maria Sorbello Explained Exactly What Happened With Ex Kyle Christie
There’s always drama on MTV’s The Challenge, as the game is all about forming alliances and potentially backstabbing allies to get to the finale. And, of course, there’s plenty of romance, too. Cara Maria Sorbello has been playing the game for years, and she’s known for being a serious physical threat. But she’s also known for her multiple exes she’s accrued from The Challenge over the years.
When British contestant Kyle Christie met Sorbello during Vendettas, sparks flew. Despite their relationship appearing fun and exciting, their relationship didn’t last. And they both seem to have different opinions of what went down. Here’s what Christie says happened to his relationship with Sorbello, and what Sorbello explained.
Kyle Christie admits a woman back home made him keep his distance from Cara Maria Sorbello
Christie and Sorbello’s romance seemed to be going quite well throughout Vendettas. But everything ended abruptly once the season ended, and we now know the two swear off each other as enemies on the show.
TV Guide notes Christie and Sorbello visited each other off-camera after Vendettas. And they both seemed to have an understanding that their relationship couldn’t get too serious because they lived in different countries. But by Final Reckoning, Christie explains he was in a different relationship situation.
“I was getting with this model girl and I was quite close with her. She said to me, ‘I know you work in reality TV and that’s fine. I get it. I know you’re going to have to hook up with girls on the show,’ but she knew that I had feelings for Cara, so she said, ‘If you get with Cara, if you hook up with Cara, I don’t want anything to do with ya,'” Christie told TV Guide.
Christie also added that it drove him crazy to see Sorbello flirting with other men in the house, namely Paulie Calafiore, during Final Reckoning. And Christie seemed to seal the end of his relationship with Sorbello when he made advances on another female contestant early on in the season.
Sorbello gave her side of the breakup story
Sorbello’s side of the story paints Christie in a very negative light. Christie seems to have told Sorbello that he had another woman at home, but Sorbello didn’t believe it after he approached another woman in the house. She told Betches that she didn’t mind if Christie wanted to be single, but he would get extremely jealous if she also wanted to flirt with other men, creating an unfair double-standard.
“If he could have just been a man and come in and said ‘look I want to sleep with other people. Let’s be friends. I’ll still look out for you, I’ll still work with you, but I want to sleep with other people.’ I’d be like OK, you’re an idiot because I’m awesome, but OK. Just tell me!” Sorbello told the publication.
She also added that she knew their relationship wouldn’t work because of the physical distance between them, and she was fine with them keeping things casual. But it was Christie who “was trying to stop me from being with other people” despite his relations with other castmembers.
“Very manipulative! And a liar and a player!” Sorbello added.
The Christie-Sorbello drama led Sorbello to Paulie Calafiore
While Christie and Sorbello could have had an amicable breakup, that ship has sailed. But it did ultimately draw Sorbello into the arms of Calafiore, who remains her current boyfriend.
“I really liked him, I was drawn to him. When I was going through all that crap with Kyle he took me into the living room and danced with me, he just made me happy,” Sorbello told Betches. “He was somebody whose energy I wanted to be around. And he knew everything about me and Kyle.”
Sorbello and Calafiore competed for big money together on War of the Worlds 2, and they’re now taking a break from The Challenge for Season 35. As for Christie, we’ll have to see if he’s on next season. And if he is, we’ll take note if he comes on the show preoccupied with an alleged relationship from home or not.
