‘The Challenge’: Darrell Taylor Explains Why He Chose ‘Big Brother’ Alliance Over CT Tamburello
The Challenge four-time champ Darrell Taylor sided with the younger Big Brother alliance over a veteran with history, CT Tamburello. During the Feb. 24 aftershow, Darrell explained his choice to vote Devin Walker over Josh Martinez into elimination.
Darrell Taylor previously got eliminated by CT Tamburello
In 2003, Road Rules: Campus Crawl star Darrell Taylor debuted on The Challenge: The Gauntlet and went on to win the season as a rookie. He returned for The Inferno, The Inferno II, and Fresh Meat, winning all of them.
The four-time champ likely could’ve won following season The Ruins as well, but a physical altercation with another housemate disqualified him.
After becoming the first eliminated from Fresh Meat II, he “invaded” the next season, Invasion of the Champions, where he took out heavy hitters Zach Nichols and vet Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio.
However, Chris “CT” Tamburello eliminated the multi-season champ and then went on to win the season. The two also competed on Dirty 30 together, but Darrell was purged out of the competition during the first episode, whereas CT made it to the finals.
Darrell and CT met again during ‘The Challenge 36’
While CT has returned for all but one challenge before Double Agents, Darrell is fresh off a six-season break. The four-time champ teamed up with Big Brother rookie Amber Borzotra as CT picked champ Ashley Mitchell over Kam Williams.
His choice unknowingly put a target on his back, and he and Ashley found themselves blindsided into the first elimination. However, it was a girl’s day, and his partner went home, leaving him a rogue agent before he teamed up with Big T Fazakerley.
Alliance lines were drawn early on in the house with the former Big Brother stars, Kam, and her boyfriend and veteran Leroy Garrett. With their numbers, they controlled nearly every house vote.
During the Feb. 24 episode, double agents CT and Big T wanted everyone to send in Josh “the Goof” Martinez so he could compete against him for his gold skull. However, the BB alliance protected him and voted in Devin Walker and Gabby Allen.
Darrell on why he didn’t side with CT and voted with the ‘Big Brother’ alliance
Several competitors didn’t know where Darrell’s true allegiance lay, making him a valuable swing vote in the situation. While CT noted he and the Road Rules star hadn’t talked in the house yet, he believed Darrell should work with him and the other “OGs.”
However, the four-time champ sided with his partner and voted in Devin as he realized the BB alliance had more numbers. After the episode, Darrell tweeted CT hadn’t helped him out in the competition and previously spoke with Theresa Jones about targeting the four-time winner.
During the Feb. 24 aftershow, he explained he didn’t consider himself a swing vote because he claims numerous competitors threw their votes. Darrell also clarified voting for Devin over Josh, explaining he usually followed Kam and Leroy’s lead.
Even though Devin called him out and claimed he knew the Road Rules star voted differently from the couple at other points in the competition, Darrell doubled down on his vote. The Challenge 36 airs Wednesdays at 8/7 Central on MTV.
