‘The Challenge’: Sarah Rice Said MTV Tried to Persuade Her to Come Back After ‘Rivals III’
Few reality shows have been on TV as long as MTV’s The Challenge. We’ve watched the players on the show lie, cheat, and physically compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past. And many veteran players go on the show season after season in the hopes of winning the big money.
Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio is one of the most well-known players from the series, as he’s won a ton of money from the show and has proven to be a villain time and time again. On Rivals III, he made a decision that completely wrecked his partner, Sarah Rice. Since then, Rice hasn’t made her return to the series — though she claims MTV tried to persuade her to come back.
Sarah Rice was shocked when Johnny Devenanzio took the money in ‘Rivals III’
Devenanzio is known for his devious schemes to win the grand prize and stay out of eliminations on The Challenge. And he’ll long be known for what he did on Rivals III.
Back in 2016 during this season, he was partnered up with Rice, who betrayed his trust in a previous season by sending him into an elimination. During Rivals III, though, Devenanzio and Rice promised to work together — and they did. They seemed to rekindle their old friendship and succeed as a duo. And they even made it to the finale together.
It was during the finale that all trust was broken. During the final run, each individual within the pairs would accrue points. The individual within the winning pair who gained the most points would then choose if they wanted to split the money with their teammate or keep it all for themselves. Devenanzio chose to keep all the money despite working well with Rice, causing her to crumble to her knees with shock.
Fans would love to see Rice get redemption on ‘The Challenge’
Devenanzio taking all the money seemed to push her away from reality TV completely. She hasn’t competed on The Challenge since even though she’s smart, capable, and one of the best puzzle-solvers the game ever saw. And since the series is still going, fans are telling her how much they’d love to see her give it one more shot.
“I wish you would come back to the challenge!” one follower commented on Rice’s Instagram photo showing her with an old Road Rules and Challenge competitor, Susie Meister.
Another asked, “is there any chance we can ever get you and @susiemeister back on the challenge? Ya’ll were the best!”
“The challenge is calling your name show these noobs how to win,” yet another fan commented.
Rice said MTV tried to persuade her back on the show
Fans aren’t the only ones begging Rice to return. Rice told Candy Dish podcast that MTV also wanted her back, College Candy reports.
“I was [asked to be on the show]. It’s so funny because they call and they dangle the carrot, and they always use some sort of persuasive language. Just like last time they said, ‘No, trust us. You’re really gonna want to do this one. This one you’re definitely, this is one for you to win,'” Rice told the podcast. “Ah, yeah one for me to win and then have my partner take all my money. Don’t pretend like you didn’t know that was going to happen.”
So they did it again this time. ‘We really think this is going to be your chance for redemption,'” Rice added. “And I was like, ‘Oh yeah. Just like you said I was going to win big last time? We remember how that worked out. Um, no.’”
Sorry, Challenge fans. It looks like Rice going head to head with Devenanzio won’t ever happen on the show. But many are certainly still in Rice’s corner regarding the outcome of Rivals III. And Devenanzio has yet to win a Challenge season since.
