‘The Challenge’ Season 37: Producer Gave Additional Clue A Lot of Rookies Will Join Cast

MTV officially announced 'The Challenge' is returning for season 37, and speculation has already begun regarding who's getting cast. A producer from the network talked about how casting plenty of rookies is vital for each new season, which may give a clue.

Fans of MTV’s The Challenge can’t wait for additional seasons of the show. Recently, the network announced The Challenge Season 37 is officially on, and fans continue to speculate on the cast and theme. And an MTV producer recently spoke about why casting so many rookies is vital to keeping the show alive. Here’s what the producer said and how it may apply to the new season.

MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ Season 37 cast is rumored to contain a number of international rookies

MTV’s The Challenge fans can rejoice, as the network finally announced the show’s returning for a new season. “What up, guys, T.J. Lavin here,” host Lavin explains in the new promo. “I wanted to welcome you to the set of the 37th season of The Challenge, placed in beautiful Croatia. This is gonna be the most epic season yet.”

Aside from the promo shared on social media, MTV hasn’t given fans any more clues as to what to expect for season 37. But spoiler accounts and rumors suggest the new cast contains a number of international rookies who’ve never stepped foot on The Challenge before.

According to The Challenge Chronicles podcast, rumors suggest the new format involves pairing a U.S. contestant with an international contestant. “We know the format now,” the podcasters explained. “It’s not one alumni with one newbie. It’s actually one international player with one American character. So, Kyle [Christie] could be paired with Tori [Deal], for example.” If the rumors prove true, this means the new cast is likely stacked with a ton of new players from different countries.

While fans have plenty of theories regarding what will come in MTV’s The Challenge Season 37, MTV producer Skye Topic may have given additional clues. Topic started working for Bunim-Murray, the parent company of MTV, since 2008, according to Us Weekly. And she spoke to the Watch With Us: Challenge Edition podcast about casting for the show.

“You definitely want a good mix of vets to rookies,” Topic noted. “I know it’s hard for older audiences because they want a whole season with the vets, but no one realizes how much they love the rookies until they start casting them.” She then noted that a season of just veteran players would never work for the show “because you need that rookie element to push the vets so they’re not just playing into their friendships and politics.”

Before the final cast is set for the show, there are plenty of alternates to choose from as well. “In addition to the 30 cast members we have on the show, we usually have six to 10 [alternates] and then an additional six or seven people we could pull from in case the alts fall out,” she added.

Given what Topic shared, fans should expect to see plenty of rookies on MTV’s The Challenge Season 37. So, when does it air? MTV hasn’t made any official announcements just yet, but there’s widespread speculation it may hit the small-screen by September or October 2021.

Production allegedly also hit a snag due to coronavirus (COVID-19) protocol, too. Reports noted production had to halt and have the cast and crew quarantine a second time before resuming. It’s unclear if this affected production overall or will delay the premiere date. We’re hoping to see the new season by fall 2021.
