Fans keeping up with MTV’s The Challenge Season 37 know the final is right around the corner. Spies, Lies, and Allies is a continuation of the spy-themed seasons MTV started back with season 36, Double Agents. Now, the “agents” in season 37 have almost completed their final missions — and fans feel ready to move forward with a different theme altogether. The official Twitter for the show gave clues suggesting The Challenge Season 38 will take on an Exes theme, but eagle-eyed fans think this isn’t actually the case. Here’s what we know.

MTV dropped a clue that ‘The Challenge’ Season 38 could have an ‘Exes’ theme

MTV’s The Challenge is known for bringing past veteran players together season after season to have them continuously duke it out for big money. Spies, Lies, and Allies saw a wealth of veterans come together and work as a team — but the season also saw more rookie players than ever before. While many of the rookie players were fun to watch, fans are ready for something more familiar. They’d love to see another season of Exes — and MTV knows it.

On Dec. 6, 2021, MTV’s official Twitter account for the show posted a clip from a past season. “Who wants another ‘Exes’?” the tweet questioned. “Sound off below on your favorite season!”

This tweet came days before the Spies, Lies, and Allies final, too, suggesting that The Challenge Season 38 may take on an Exes theme. The Challenge: Battle of the Exes aired in 2012, and Battle of the Exes 2 aired in 2015.

Spoiler accounts suggest ‘Exes’ isn’t actually the theme for the next season

Fans hoping for The Challenge Season 38 to take on another Exes theme shouldn’t get too excited. According to Reddit, spoiler accounts, like PinkRose and GamerVev, suggest the next season will take on a different theme altogether.

“I remember seeing a tweet saying it was another vague theme that wasn’t specific to casting so I’m confused why Exes is still brought up,” a fan on Reddit wrote.

“Just speculation as far as I know, with the cast getting in on the fun,” another Reddit user noted. “Both PinkRose and GamerVev have said Exes is unlikely.”

Others think the theme may change depending on casting, so MTV might not have anything set in stone just yet. “It was also rumored that Vendettas was originally set as a Bloodlines 2 and Dirty 30 was significant others, so I take the theme speculations with a grain of salt,” another Reddit user wrote. “It all depends on who they can cast.”

With The Challenge Season 37 slated to end on Dec. 15, 2021, when is The Challenge Season 38 premiere date? A tweet from GamerVev claimed season 38 would begin filming in January 2022. According to Monsters & Critics, if the contestants begin filming in January, fans should see the new season by April or May 2022.

There’s way more than just season 38 to look forward to as well. The Challenge: All Stars Season 3 is reportedly in the works and filming, as is a new spinoff. Mark Long from The Challenge: All Stars teamed up Objective Media Group America to create a new cooking competition series featuring reality stars, Us Weekly reports.

“We are looking forward to collaborating with Mark to build a new twist on cooking competitions that harnesses his deep roots in the reality community,” Michael Beilinson, Objective Media’s vice president of development, explained to Us Weekly.

MTV’s The Challenge Season 37 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
