‘The Challenge’: Watch Host T.J. Lavin’s Debut on CBS All Access; Seasons 11-31 Now Available
CBS All Access rebranded their app to include over 3,500 episodes from CBS and its sister channels BET, Nickelodeon, MTV, and Comedy Central. Old seasons of The Challenge are also available starting from its 11th season, in which BMX rider T.J. Lavin made his debut as a host.
‘The Challenge’ is a spinoff of ‘The Real World’
Composed initially of former cast members from flagship reality show The Real World pitted against stars from sister series Road Rules, the competitive spinoff began including competitors who hadn’t appeared in either series in the 12th season, Fresh Meat.
Each season has a different theme where the cast competes in teams, individually, or partner for several reasons, including rivals or ex-lovers. The competitors face-off in daily challenges, and the loser and whoever voted in by the house compete in an elimination round where the winner remains.
After competing in 10 or so daily missions, the remaining contestants enter the finals to endure a tough physical challenge. The person, team, or duo to come out on top first wins the grand monetary prize.
‘The Challenge’ just finished its 35th season
The MTV competitive series aired its 35th season during its 20th anniversary, and the show enjoyed its highest ratings in several seasons. It introduced a new twist for the competitors in which they could only compete in the finals if they earned a red skull by winning an elimination.
Although Jenny West easily received her red skull against rookie Jennifer Lee, the British bodybuilder later sent fierce competitor Dee Nguyen home. She then beat everyone, including all the guys, in the finals, earning $500,000. Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio and his ally Wes Bergmann wanted to go into elimination at the same time, so they ended up going against each other.
Devenanzio won and also defeated Rogan O’Connor in the last elimination round in the middle of the finals. He then finished the finals as the top male, taking home the other half of the million-dollar prize.
Due to its high viewership, ViacomCBS announced they renewed the popular show for another season.
